Sport Clips Haircuts Donates Over $1 Million to VFW for Scholarships Supporting Veterans' Education

Sport Clips Haircuts Makes Generous Donation to VFW Foundation

Sport Clips Haircuts has once again demonstrated its unwavering support for veterans by donating a substantial $1.33 million to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Foundation. This marks the ninth consecutive year that the company, founded by veterans, has provided such generous contributions to the Help A Hero Scholarship program, which is recognized as the largest of its kind for veterans.

The donation ceremony took place at VFW Post 1 in downtown Denver, a venue steeped in history and dedication to honoring those who served. The event not only highlighted the monetary donation but also featured complimentary haircuts for local veterans, emphasizing Sport Clips’ commitment to supporting the veteran community.

The Help A Hero Scholarship Program

Launched in 2013, the Help A Hero Scholarship program aims to provide essential educational support to service members and veterans whose G.I. Bill benefits may have been depleted. As Gordon Logan, founder and chairman of Sport Clips and an Air Force veteran, shared, “These scholarships significantly lessen the financial burdens for veterans pursuing further education, allowing them to focus on their studies.”

The impact of this program has been profound, as recipients of the Help A Hero scholarships frequently express their gratitude for the opportunity to continue their education without the constant worry of financial issues. Each scholarship serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by these individuals and showcases Sport Clips' dedication to giving back to those who have defended the country.

Current Scholarship Statistics

During the presentation, VFW National Commander Al Lipphardt announced that, for the spring semester, 161 student veterans, including active-duty members and reservists, received a total of $741,000 in Help A Hero Scholarships. This statistic demonstrates the significant role that these funds play in aiding veterans as they transition into civilian life and higher education.

Credit for this impressive achievement must also go to the local McMurdo family, the owners of 19 Sport Clips locations in Colorado. They have organized an annual golf tournament in Castle Rock dedicated to raising funds for the Help A Hero Scholarship program, contributing over $400,000 in donations over the past seven years.

Community Efforts and Support

The successful fundraising efforts for the Help A Hero program are made possible through the collective contributions of stylists, clients, and numerous product partners. Throughout Veterans Day, various store owners committed to donating $2 for every haircut, generating nearly 20% of the funding for the annual scholarships. Additionally, substantial contributions have been received from major partners such as Direct Beauty Express, John Paul Mitchell Systems, and Sexy Hair, among others.

As the application window for the fall 2025 Help A Hero Scholarships remains open until April 30, eligible veterans in the rank of E-5 and below can apply for up to $5,000 per semester to continue their education.
