Hydro One's Ambitious Plan for a New Power Line in Niagara Region

Hydro One's New Power Line Initiative in Niagara Region

Today, Hydro One Networks Inc. (Hydro One) has officially submitted a proposal to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to develop a new 230-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line. This line will extend from Abitibi Consolidated Junction, which lies within an existing Hydro One corridor in Thorold, all the way to the Crowland Transformer Station located in Welland. As part of the project, Crowland TS will also undergo expansions. With an estimated investment of $311 million, this initiative aims to be completed by 2029, aiming to improve both the capacity and reliability of Ontario's electricity grid.

In light of the increasing demand for electricity in Ontario, particularly in regions like the southwest, this transmission line is essential for supporting the region's growth.
