Celebrating 90 Years of Social Security with AARP New York
On August 14, 2025, AARP New York proudly marked the 90th anniversary of Social Security by hosting a series of vibrant celebrations across the state. This historic milestone was not just a time for reflection but also a call to action, emphasizing the continued need to protect and strengthen this essential program for future generations.
The day began in the heart of Manhattan, where a towering billboard lit up Times Square, proudly announcing Social Security's remarkable journey. A double-decker bus adorned with banners embarked on a tour through Midtown and Lower Manhattan, carrying more than 50 enthusiastic AARP volunteers, everyday New Yorkers, and prominent figures like AARP State Director Beth Finkel and CEO Myechia Minter-Jordan. They shared personal stories of how Social Security has transformed their lives, reinforcing the program's invaluable role in providing financial security and peace of mind.
As evening approached, iconic landmarks from Times Square to Niagara Falls illuminated in red, white, and blue, symbolizing a program that has stood the test of time and never missed a payment in its 90-year history.
