Brookfield Celebrates a Decade in Japan with Tokyo Investment Forum

Brookfield's Decade in Japan: A Celebration of Partnerships

On June 2, 2025, Brookfield, a prominent global investment firm, held a significant event marking ten years since the establishment of its base in Japan. This milestone was celebrated with the inaugural Tokyo Investment Forum, followed by a reception attended by over 300 domestic investors and partners.

In recent years, Japanese investors have shown increasing confidence in Brookfield's global strategies, leading to the establishment of Brookfield Japan KK in 2015. This strategic move aimed to foster closer ties and build trust with local investors, facilitating access to the capital markets and creating tailored investment solutions.

With a talented team of over 20 employees, Brookfield Japan has successfully forged partnerships with approximately 150 major institutional and high-net-worth investors in Japan. The firm is actively collaborating with leading domestic companies to explore investment opportunities across various sectors, including renewable energy, infrastructure, private equity, real estate, credit, and reinsurance.

A notable milestone for Brookfield in Japan was the launch of a private wealth channel in 2021, designed to offer institutional-grade alternative investment products to the affluent market. Furthermore, in 2024, Brookfield expanded its operations by opening a center for its global reinsurance business in Japan. Looking ahead to early 2025, the firm is set to announce two significant real estate transactions in the Tokyo and Nagoya metropolitan areas.

Stewart Upson, Brookfield's CEO for the Asia-Pacific region expressed, “Japan has long been a key market for Brookfield, and we are committed to strengthening partnerships with Japanese investors and companies. We deeply appreciate the trust our stakeholders have placed in us, and we look forward to collaborating with them from a long-term perspective.” He emphasized Brookfield's intention to enhance its presence in Japan to contribute positively to the regional economy while providing tailored solutions that enable local partners to optimize their capital and achieve sustainable growth.

Luke Edwards, President and Representative Director of Brookfield Japan, shared his thoughts on the evolving landscape of investment opportunities. “We are witnessing a growing demand for collaboration with Japanese companies. Utilizing our global capital strength and operational expertise, we are excited to support the growth of Japanese firms both domestically and internationally. Building unique value with our investors across various strategies is an honor that we owe to the immense support of our Japanese stakeholders.” He reaffirmed Brookfield's commitment to nurturing trust and progressing to the next stage of growth together.

The event took place at the Hotel New Otani in Tokyo, serving as the final event of Brookfield's inaugural 2025 Asia-Pacific Forum Series. During the forum, investment leaders from Brookfield provided insights on key themes such as real estate, global energy transition, the growth of AI and digital infrastructure, value creation in private equity, and the evolution of the private credit market. Notably, Bruce Flatt, CEO of Brookfield, visited Japan and shared his perspectives on how enduring structural trends underpin long-term investment opportunities amidst short-term market fluctuations. He elaborated on how Brookfield is strategically positioned to capitalize on these opportunities.
