Gotham has made waves with its latest endeavor—a groundbreaking cannabis concept store that opened on April 4th, 2025, in Chelsea, New York. This new location marks the brand's fourth store and introduces Gotham Gallery, a first-of-its-kind art exhibition space within a cannabis retail environment. This innovative approach creates an immersive experience for customers,
A New Hybrid Experience
Located at the corner of 10th Avenue and 19th Street, the Gotham Chelsea store is designed to blend the worlds of cannabis and art seamlessly. As visitors step into the meticulously curated retail space, they are greeted with a wide array of premium cannabis products, lifestyle goods, and striking art. The innovative gallery is not just a showcase; it's a space for dynamic exhibits that will feature emerging and established artists, allowing them to sell their works in a beautifully designed environment.
Talented New Additions to the Team
With the opening of this new hybrid space, Gotham has also expanded its team, welcoming Jesse Tolz as the Vice President of Marketing. Tolz brings extensive experience from the cannabis and food industries and is poised to shape Gotham’s marketing strategies moving forward. Emma Schwartz, formerly with Pace Gallery, will serve as the Gallery Sales Manager, working alongside Rachel Berks, Gotham's Vice President of Creative Merchandising, to bring exciting art programming to life.
Setting a New Standard
Gotham Gallery is a significant milestone in merging cannabis with culture, providing emerging artists with a platform to showcase their creativity. Visitors are led through an art-lined corridor into the 805-square-foot gallery area, which can host group shows, solo exhibitions, and private events. This unique blend of cannabis and creative expression sets a precedent—Gotham isn’t simply selling products; they are creating a cultural hub.
The Impact of Art
The Chelsea location also emphasizes Gotham’s commitment to supporting artists. This Fall, the brand will launch a collection called Editions, which includes artist-designed limited editions such as prints, ashtrays, and other merchandise. This initiative aims to provide additional income opportunities for artists exhibited through Gotham’s programs.
The gallery's inaugural exhibition, titled "The World is Yours," features work from iconic rapper Nas and the design studio Objects Are By. Premiering on April 19th, the exhibition will showcase exclusive photographs of Nas from 1994, taken by renowned creative director Danny Hastings. Alongside these visuals, visitors will have access to a limited-edition collection of apparel and homeware items exclusively available at Gotham.
Art Installs and Cannabis Selection
As visitors explore the gallery and retail space, they are enveloped by a unique arboreal art installation by Molly Lowe, inspired by upstate New York's quaking aspen trees. The leaves are crafted from delicate capiz shells, and sculptural trees made of recycled materials enhance this immersive experience. Expert staff are always on hand to guide clients in selecting from a diverse range of cannabis offerings, including flower, pre-rolls, edibles, vape pens, and live resin.
In addition to cannabis, clients can explore a curated mix of lifestyle and beauty products, featuring brands such as Luar, Eckhaus Latta, and others alongside Gotham's exclusive in-house label, Gotham Goods, known for its array of candles, topicals, and apparel.
A Commitment to the Community
Joanne Wilson, Gotham’s founder, emphasizes the significance of this new location, stating, “Chelsea has always been the beating heart of New York's art scene, and we're planting our flag right in the middle of it.” Gotham Chelsea aims to redefine the cannabis retail experience, highlighting its commitment to artists and cultural creators.
Beyond retail, Gotham seeks to foster community engagement through art, activism, and wellness events such as meditation sessions and journaling workshops.
