In an innovative initiative titled "100 Portraits of Becoming", TECNO has partnered with Brazilian artist Angélica Dass to redefine how technology can represent humanity. This project, which commenced in Nairobi, Kenya, seeks to create a living archive that captures the essence of human identity through a series of 100 unique portraits.

Reflecting Humanity Through Technology


As artificial intelligence increasingly influences societal perceptions, it becomes imperative to ensure such technologies accurately depict the rich tapestry of human existence. TECNO emphasizes that technology should serve as a tool to enhance how individuals are viewed, striving for a perception that steers clear of biases, stereotypes, and preconceived notions.

Jack Guo, General Manager at TECNO, highlighted this vision by stating, "Through this project, we want to move beyond representation as technical accuracy alone and explore representation as recognition." This initiative emphasizes the importance of authentic representation, particularly in an era where misrepresentation can stem from AI biases.

A Journey Across Five Countries


100 Portraits of Becoming” aims to showcase the diverse identities of individuals by traveling across five nations—starting in Kenya and subsequently expanding to the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Brazil. Each participant will share their personal narratives alongside their portraits, fostering a cultural dialogue about identity, dignity, and human experiences.



Angélica Dass expressed her excitement, noting that this partnership is about creating spaces where individuals can represent themselves authentically. Her renowned work, Humanæ, previously challenged common perceptions of skin color and identity, setting a precedent for the goals of this new initiative. Dass reiterated the sentiment that “true recognition begins when we are seen as we really are.”

Portraits Beyond Aesthetics


What distinguishes the project is how portraits are captured. The individuals will be photographed in natural light, without filters.
