Eli Lilly's Zepbound Outshines Wegovy HD in Weight Loss

In a groundbreaking analysis presented at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Milan, Italy, Eli Lilly and Company's weight-loss medication, Zepbound (tirzepatide), has demonstrated superior efficacy over Wegovy HD (semaglutide injection) in adults living with obesity. This new indirect treatment comparison draws on data from key clinical trials, including SURMOUNT-1 and STEP UP, which highlight Zepbound's effectiveness in promoting weight loss.

Key Findings from the Study

The study revealed that participants receiving Zepbound at doses of 10 mg and 15 mg experienced greater reductions in body weight compared to those using Wegovy HD. Specifically, individuals on Zepbound 15 mg achieved an average weight loss of 4.5% more than their counterparts on Wegovy HD after 72 weeks. Additionally, those taking the 10 mg dosage lost an average of 3.2% more body weight than those on Wegovy HD.

The study's lead researcher, Dr. John Wilding from the University of Liverpool, emphasized the significance of treatment choices for patients with obesity. He noted, “For people living with obesity, the choice of treatment matters, and clinicians increasingly want evidence on how the available options compare.” The research validates the growing body of evidence that suggests Zepbound is more effective than Wegovy HD, particularly in achieving substantial weight loss.

Dr. Wilding added that despite the absence of a direct head-to-head trial between Zepbound 15 mg and Wegovy HD, this indirect comparison provides crucial evidence for healthcare professionals in making informed treatment decisions for their patients.

Increased Odds of Significant Weight Reduction

The findings also indicated that taking Zepbound 15 mg significantly increased the odds of achieving a minimum 20% body weight reduction compared to Wegovy HD. Notably, participants using Zepbound were four times more likely to meet this goal, marking a substantial difference in treatment outcomes. For Zepbound 10 mg users, the odds were more than double compared to those receiving Wegovy HD, reinforcing the advantages offered by Eli Lilly's medication.
