Sobokuya Co., Ltd., a renowned architectural firm based in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, and its partner Orient Five Basic Elements Co., Ltd. in Ho Chi Minh City, have proudly announced the opening of the "Sobokuya Showroom Saigon." This new location adds to Sobokuya's growing international presence, following the establishment of its Hanoi base in 2022. The company has successfully catered to diverse needs not only within Vietnam but also in neighboring Asian countries, aspiring to share its architectural philosophy with the world and promote a way of life rooted in nature.
The Saigon Showroom
The showroom features a remarkable 5-meter-long counter made from a rare Monkey Pod wood, with a thickness of 60mm. This high-quality Vietnamese wood is celebrated for its durability, beautiful grain, and rich color variations. In addition, traditional Japanese Hinoki wood has been used for the shoji screens and entrance doors, creating an authentic ambiance. The walls have been finished with a stucco texture that enhances the unique charm and grandeur of the space.
Designed using local solid wood and natural materials indigenous to Vietnam, the showroom aims to provide visitors with an experience reminiscent of Japanese landscapes and atmospheres. It will serve as a focal point for cultural exchanges among the Japanese community residing in Vietnam, connecting people and materials while disseminating Japanese culture and design.
There is an increasing interest among local professionals and design-savvy residents in Japanese architecture, its technical aspects, and cultural significance. The showroom is envisioned as a bridge to foster this interest further. The operations will be overseen by Hiroshi Kawaguchi, who possesses an extensive business foundation and network throughout Vietnam, marking it as one of the critical sales bases for Sobokuya.
Bridging Cultures
At Sobokuya, the belief that the landscape of living harmoniously with nature transcends borders and cultures is fundamental. The company remains committed to engaging with various local environments and delivering architectural solutions that reflect the unique characteristics of each region.
Traditional Japanese Elements
As a prominent feature of the showroom, a traditional tea room has been established at the entrance, symbolizing the fusion of Japanese customs within a Vietnamese context. Sobokuya plans to evolve its architectural practices to meet the demands of both Japan and global markets. This involves innovating supply systems and adapting traditional wooden construction methods alongside new design elements, ensuring Japan’s aesthetic values continue to lead and inspire.
