Flourish Together: A Campaign for Autism Awareness
The Turning Pointe Autism Foundation (TPAF), based in Naperville, Illinois, is launching an impactful three-month campaign named "Flourish Together Community. Support. Impact." This initiative is set to coincide with National Autism Awareness Month and National Autism Acceptance Month, kicking off in April 2026. This effort is significant as it aims to foster awareness and acceptance for individuals with autism while enhancing community partnerships and local business support.
As a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with autism, TPAF strives to provide a network that actively supports the autism community in various capacities. The foundation has received recognition from the City of Naperville, which recently proclaimed April as Autism Awareness Month, acknowleding the important role TPAF plays in the lives of those affected by autism across the Chicagoland area.
TPAF's commitment revolves around creating best-practice learning environments. Their diverse programs include a therapeutic day school accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education, serving children and young adults aged 5 to 22, along with the Community, Recreation, Engagement, and Well-Being (CREW) Day Program and additional support services.
In the words of TPAF Executive Director Carrie Provenzale, "Awareness informs, but acceptance transforms." This statement encapsulates the essence of the campaign. By engaging local community partners, TPAF aims to expand its reach and deepen its impact, ultimately working toward a society that embraces diversity and supports every individual within the autism community.
Local businesses are stepping up to support TPAF in various ways during this campaign. For instance, the Edge Music Academy will contribute $30 for every new student enrolling in music lessons. Similarly, Big Blue Swim School is hosting a raffle where proceeds will directly benefit TPAF. KidSnips salons across the suburbs plan to donate $1 from every haircut throughout April. Furthermore, a special initiative named “Test Drives for Autism Awareness” encourages local car dealerships to donate $20 for each test drive taken in April.
Promotional deals will also enhance community participation. For instance, The Flow Express Car Wash is offering discounts on washes for individuals who participate in the test drive initiative, while the Westin Chicago Lombard will host a sale of Autism Awareness pins, with all proceeds supporting TPAF.
Restaurants are joining the cause as well. At Entourage and VAI's Italian Inspired Kitchen + Bar, $1 from every specialty drink sold will benefit TPAF. Additionally, patrons test-driving at local dealerships will receive dining coupons to encourage further involvement.
On April 24, TPAF, in collaboration with students from Lewis University’s Special Events class, will host a fundraising event at Rockstars Garage. This event aims to shed light on autism while securing vital funding for TPAF’s transformative programs. Guests can expect lively entertainment, delicious appetizers, and drinks, with ticket proceeds entirely directed to support TPAF.
Julie Schmidt, TPAF Development Officer, expresses gratitude for the collaboration with Lewis University, praising the partnership that emphasizes intentional planning and community investment. "This event is a reminder that acceptance isn't just discussed—it's forged through our actions together."
The Turning Pointe Autism Foundation remains committed to elevating educational, therapeutic, and social engagement resources for individuals with autism. Their momentum is driven by robust collaborations with autism research experts, local school districts, corporate partners, and devoted volunteers. Through these united efforts, TPAF aspires to create a thriving, inclusive environment for every individual navigating the complexities of autism.
