Hyundai Partners with Baystate Health Foundation to Enhance Child Passenger Safety Education in Massachusetts
In a significant move towards improving child safety on the roads, Hyundai Motor America has teamed up with the Baystate Health Foundation and Gary Rome Hyundai to host an educational event dedicated to car seat safety. This initiative took place on August 5, 2026, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, emphasizing the importance of proper car seat installation for the protection of children.
The event was designed as a hands-on workshop where families could receive vital education on the correct use and installation of car seats. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) facilitated the inspections and sessions, providing valuable guidance to parents and caregivers. Hyundai's commitment to making a difference in local communities is evident, and as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, Hyundai Hope, the company donated $25,000 to support the Pediatric Trauma Surgery Injury Prevention Car Seat Program at the Baystate Health Foundation.
This funding aims to provide essential car and booster seats to families who may not otherwise have access to such resources. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), properly installed car seats can mitigate the risk of fatal injuries by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. However, the alarming reality is that almost 50% of car seats are not installed correctly, underscoring the need for educational programs like this.
During the event, CPSTs checked car seats for expiration dates, recalls, and proper fit while demonstrating installation techniques to ensure maximum safety for all participating families. Those who needed new car seats received replacements on-spot, significantly boosting the community's access to safety tools. To date, over 240 car and booster seats have been distributed since the collaboration began in 2023, reinforcing the ongoing commitment to child passenger safety within the community.
Gary Rome, president and CEO of Gary Rome Auto Group, voiced his pride in supporting initiatives that bring crucial resources to families. "Events like this guarantee parents have access to the knowledge and tools necessary to maintain their children's safety during travels."
The Baystate Health Foundation, established in 2000, plays a vital role in supporting various health initiatives across its services. It functions to bolster all Baystate Health locations, including its renowned children's hospital and cancer care center, ensuring quality healthcare for the community. Hyundai Hope aligns with these missions, dedicating resources and efforts to improve societal well-being. Through partnerships, Hyundai is committed to fostering safe environments for children and enhancing the quality of health and safety resources available to families.
Furthermore, Hyundai Motor America continues its provision of innovative automotive solutions, ranging from cars to SUVs and electrified vehicles. With significant operations in the U.S. and a commitment to investing heavily in American infrastructure, Hyundai is not only focused on producing vehicles but is also dedicated to being an active participant in community betterment and public health education.
