Hexnode Synapse: Redefining IT Operations
In a significant revelation at the annual HexCon26 conference, Hexnode, the software division of Mitsogo, introduced its latest product, Hexnode Synapse. This pioneering solution is designed to enhance IT and security operations through agent-based orchestration, promising to streamline processes by effectively coordinating systems and workflows across organizations.
The Need for Orchestration
The modern technological landscape presents numerous challenges for IT departments, particularly in integrating multiple tools and systems. Apu Pavithran, the CEO and founder of Hexnode, emphasized this during his keynote. He explained that when reviewing actual IT operations, it becomes apparent that activities rarely occur within a single system. Instead, various elements come into play - from identity management to endpoint security. The relentless manual interventions required in connecting these dots can lead to significant delays and inefficiencies in response times.
Hexnode Synapse emerges as a solution to bridge these gaps, facilitating seamless transitions between different operational stages, thereby reducing the workload on IT personnel.
Overview of Hexnode Synapse
Hexnode Synapse serves as a regulated orchestration layer, orchestrating requests, alerts, and events across all enterprise systems involved in their resolution. Leveraging the contextual information provided by Hexnode's existing platforms, such as Hexnode UEM, Hexnode XDR, and Hexnode IdP, Synapse extends its workflows to encompass surrounding IT and security tools. This technology alleviates the need for administrators to switch between different consoles, instead uniting the management of agents, validations, and systems actions under a cohesive framework for every request or alert.
How Does it Work?
The functionality of Hexnode Synapse hinges on specialized AI agents that analyze incoming requests and alerts, advising on the necessary actions within predefined limits. The solution has three primary agent categories:
- - Device Agent: Diagnoses root causes, rectifies compliance gaps, addresses vulnerabilities, applies patches, and provisions devices accordingly.
- - Identity Agent: Facilitates access requests, manages identity lifecycle operations, and oversees role changes.
- - Malicious Agent: Streamlines the triaging of alerts, threat analysis, and containment procedures.
Organizations can customize these agents to fit their specific tools and knowledge bases, promoting a tailored approach to operations.
Synapse also coordinates cross-product sequences, enabling operations that span multiple systems. For instance, a simple command such as “Onboard John” triggers a comprehensive HR profile analysis of the new employee, initiating their onboarding processes. This includes creating their identity, assigning application licenses based on their service type, executing zero-touch device configurations, enforcing endpoint protection policies, and generating corresponding IT tickets — all in one regulated workflow. If any step encounters a blockage, Synapse automatically resolves the issue; upon application license expirations, it prompts the necessary ticket creation and restarts provisioning.
Governance Features
Maintaining governance within automated operations is crucial. Hexnode Synapse introduces “guardrails,” which are administrator-defined limitations governing what actions an agent can autonomously perform. Approvals are sought for sensitive actions like wiping devices or modifying privileged access, ensuring that all operations remain aligned with corporate policies. Additionally, every autonomous or approved action is logged in the Execution Center, allowing IT and security teams to easily review and audit the historical data, simplifying what was once a tedious process.
Initial Integrations and Availability
Upon launch, Hexnode Synapse will be compatible with key applications such as ServiceNow, Zendesk, Microsoft Entra ID, and BambooHR, thus expanding its orchestration capabilities across relevant IT and security workflows. Hexnode envisions the gradual expansion of Synapse's integration catalog and core functionalities in subsequent phases.
The platform will initially undergo an invitation-only testing phase later this year, encouraging organizations interested in Hexnode Synapse to register their interest at
