CAMPFIRE Launches Support for Cultural Heritage Projects in Nara

CAMPFIRE Launches Cultural Heritage Initiative in Nara Prefecture

CAMPFIRE, one of Japan's largest crowdfunding platforms based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has joined forces with Satofull, the leading furusato (hometown) tax portal, to support an ambitious project aimed at preserving cultural heritage in Nara Prefecture. As part of the Nara Furusato Cultural Heritage Support Project, a total of 37 initiatives will receive funding aimed at maintaining and restoring historical assets.

Overview of the Project

On August 24, 2026, the initial phase of this initiative kicked off with seven projects available for support through a dedicated page on the CAMPFIRE platform.

Project Features and Background

To maintain and preserve cultural properties, constant funding is necessary for repairs, disaster prevention equipment, and the preservation of ceremonial tools and costumes. Crowdfunding serves as a method where individuals resonate with specific causes, enabling contributions regardless of geographical proximity or interest. This not only facilitates monetary support but also creates non-financial values such as messages of encouragement, interest in the community, and awareness for passing legacies to future generations.

Further emphasizing the project's potential, donations will supplement the existing funds provided by the prefecture, ensuring that cultural property owners receive additional support rather than substituting existing budgets. This infusion of resources helps amplify the financial framework for preservation activities, reinforcing the understanding that every contribution generates a direct impact.

CAMPFIRE has emerged as a leader in diversifying fundraising avenues, consistently advocating for the importance of initiating values through emotional connections in achieving sustainable funding.

Details on the First Phase

The first batch of projects targets critical national and prefectural cultural assets ranging from historical buildings, artworks, folk cultural properties, and historical sites. These initiatives include extensive activities such as the restoration of a revered shrine building, implementing state-of-the-art disaster prevention equipment to protect cultural properties from fire, and renewing the tools used in traditional ceremonies, and even polishing historical swords.

Additional phases of the project will unveil more initiatives progressively, ensuring that the efforts to preserve Nara’s rich cultural landscape continue effectively.

Message from Nara Prefecture

Nara is rich in invaluable cultural heritage, comprising historical buildings, art pieces, historical sites, and intangible folk cultural properties. However, the preservation requires significant investment in time and financial resources to repair structures, maintain safety protocols, and support ceremonial practices. The aging population and shrinking workforce further complicate the ability to sustain these efforts. Therefore, community involvement and financial backing are essential to ensure the legacy of these cultural treasures is passed down to future generations.

We invite everyone to engage with Nara’s cultural heritage through this project and assist in safeguarding its legacy for years to come.
