Baja California Sur Unveils EMBRACE IT Initiative for Sustainable Tourism
Baja California Sur, a stunning region renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant marine life, is taking significant steps toward promoting sustainable tourism through the launch of its new initiative, EMBRACE IT. This program is set to enhance the local tourism experience while ensuring the preservation of the natural environment and fostering community development.
Understanding the EMBRACE IT Tax
The EMBRACE IT initiative officially implements a tax specifically targeting foreign visitors who stay in the state for more than 24 hours. The tax amount is established at
470 Mexican pesos (approximately
25 US dollars) per person. This fee will be collected exclusively online, offering a seamless payment process through the Travelkore platform. Upon arrival, travelers must present proof of payment at designated entry and exit points within the state.
Goals of the Initiative
The main objective of the EMBRACE IT tax is to raise funds that can be deployed towards critical areas, including:
- - Environmental Protection: Safeguarding local ecosystems and biodiversity.
- - Infrastructure Enhancement: Improving public facilities to accommodate tourists and residents alike.
- - Social and Cultural Projects: Supporting community initiatives that enrich the lives of locals and visitors.
As
Bertha Montaño Cota, the Minister of Finance and Administration, stated, "Our commitment is to provide an unforgettable tourist experience while protecting our ecosystems and supporting the well-being of local communities. EMBRACE IT is a key tool to achieve this." The initiative is framed by Article 129 Bis of the State Finance Law of Baja California Sur, outlining the frameworks for the tax's implementation.
