On August 13, 2026, an enthusiastic crowd gathered at Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) to mark the grand opening of the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center. Designed to replicate various clinical environments, the center features a simulation hospital that includes a neonatal intensive care unit, labor and delivery areas, acute and critical care units, as well as X-ray and CT imaging facilities. In addition to the hospital simulation, the center boasts an expanded cadaver laboratory, advanced health science technology, and collaborative study spaces, providing students with a comprehensive educational atmosphere. The vision for this innovative center took shape nearly five years ago when then-Gov. Mike Parson urged Missouri's four-year universities to develop transformative capital projects. MSSU responded with a proposal focused on enhancing health and life sciences education through immersive experiences. Construction broke ground in April 2024, and by March 2025, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated with the participation of Gov. Mike Kehoe.

The opening of the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center marks a significant milestone for MSSU, enhancing programs such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and an undergraduate degree in medical imaging. Additionally, specialized certificates in sonography, CT, and MRI are now available to further support students in their educational growth within the healthcare landscape.

The center also hosts the Missouri 3D Printing Center for Precision Health. This facility, equipped with medical-grade 3D printers, is designed to bolster student education and foster partnerships with healthcare providers, pushing the envelope on how healthcare education can evolve.
