Resorts World New York City Unveils Ambitious $5.5 Billion Resort Plan
Resorts World New York City Unveils Ambitious Plan
Resorts World New York City (RWNYC) has taken a monumental step towards realizing its vision of building the largest fully integrated resort in the state. Nearly fifteen years after first opening its doors, the company recently presented its $5.5 billion proposal to the Community Advisory Committee (CAC), highlighting an impressive plan that could potentially reshape the landscape of the New York gaming and entertainment industry.
A Transformative Vision
The ambitious project aims to convert the 73-acre Aqueduct site into a vast entertainment hub, boasting a staggering 5.6 million square-foot integrated resort. The proposed facility will feature an expansive casino area equipped with 6,000 slot machines and 800 gaming tables, alongside 2,000 luxury hotel rooms and a 7,000-seat arena. Additionally, patrons can expect more than 30 food and beverage outlets, a lavish spa, and extensive community greenspace.
With a target opening date as early as July 2026, this project is poised to create up to 24,000 jobs, significantly contribute to the local economy by generating hundreds of millions in tax revenue for New York State and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
Community Commitment
During the presentation, Resorts World Chief Legal and Strategy Officer Kevin Jones emphasized that RWNYC's proposal is uniquely positioned to be nearly risk-free regarding completion and operational success. The company's past commitment to Queens has been evident through the creation of over 1,000 good union jobs, substantial investments in local initiatives, and the establishment of long-lasting community ties since they took over operations in 2010.
Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East, expressed pride in RWNYC's growth alongside the Queens community, emphasizing that today's proposal focuses not only on creating a transformative hub but also on boosting the local economy and providing significant community benefits.
Celebrating Culinary Excellence
Complementing the resort experience, the project will also feature collaborations with world-renowned chefs, including Marcus Samuelsson and Scott Conant, who are set to introduce unique dining concepts at the resort. This aspect further enhances RWNYC's commitment to providing an exceptional level of service and experience to its visitors.
Impact on New York's Economy
As the largest taxpayer in New York State, RWNYC has significantly contributed to the state's public education fund, generating over $4.5 billion in revenue since its inception. The casino also contributes to the horse-racing industry and state lottery operations, having sent more than $2 billion and $200 million, respectively. Should RWNYC secure a full commercial license for the new resort, these numbers are expected to escalate dramatically.
Moreover, RWNYC is not only committed to entertainment but also to housing solutions in the city. They recently announced a partnership with Cirrus Workforce Housing, aiming to invest in the construction of up to 50,000 units of workforce housing throughout New York City.
RWNYC's philanthropic efforts, encapsulated by Resorts World Gives, have also seen the casino allocate over $10 million to various arts, civic, educational, and economic development organizations across the community.
Recognizing the evolving needs of the community, RWNYC has dedicated $50 million towards establishing the Resorts World Innovation Campus. This facility will include state-of-the-art amenities such as a Community Health and Wellness Center and a Queens STEAM Institute led by former NBA champion Kenny
