Yellow Card Strengthens Its Presence in Brazil Through Acquisition of GoMoney
In a strategic move aimed at expansion in the growing Latin American cryptocurrency market, Yellow Card, a leading global provider of stablecoin payment infrastructure, has announced the acquisition of GoMoney Sociedade Prestadora de Serviços de Ativos Virtuais Ltda. The acquisition was finalized in October 2026, allowing Yellow Card to establish direct operations within Brazil, where cryptocurrency services are rapidly gaining traction.
Background of the Acquisition
GoMoney, founded in 2018, is a Brazilian service provider for virtual assets based in São Paulo. It has been actively seeking authorization from the Banco Central do Brasil (BCB) to operate under Brazil's legal framework for virtual asset service providers established by Law No. 14,478/2022. While this authorization is still pending, GoMoney currently operates under the transitional regime applicable to such service providers. The acquisition marks a significant milestone for Yellow Card as it aims to tap into Brazil's burgeoning cryptocurrency market.
Strategic Importance of Brazil
Brazil has emerged as a crucial market for stablecoin-based financial services. According to Chainalysis, the country recorded $252.5 billion in cryptocurrency transactions between July 2025 and June 2026, making it the largest market in Latin America. The same report noted a staggering 495% growth in stablecoin activity in Brazil from 2024 to 2026, driven largely by increasing adoption by businesses for cross-border transfers and liquidity management. This highlights Brazil's potential as a hotspot for cryptocurrency usage, affirming Yellow Card's strategic move into this market.
Chris Maurice, co-founder and CEO of Yellow Card, emphasized that building an efficient global financial infrastructure requires not only adhering to local regulations but also leveraging local payment networks and expertise. He stated, "Over the past eight years, GoMoney has built a solid foundation in Brazil, and merging our operations will help us provide increased value to our customers while accelerating our long-term ambitions."
Enhancing Local Services for Customers
With the incorporation of GoMoney into its operations, Yellow Card will offer localized cash-in and cash-out services in Brazilian Real, including payment options through Pix and stablecoin settlements. These enhancements will be integrated with Yellow Card's existing treasury and liquidity services available in other markets, thereby providing a comprehensive financial ecosystem for its users.
Maurício Pires, co-founder and CEO of GoMoney, expressed enthusiasm about the merger: "We have spent the last eight years building a virtual asset services business in Brazil, focused on using stablecoins for cross-border payments. We are excited to join the Yellow Card team and look forward to expanding our operations not just in Brazil but across all of Latin America."
Yellow Card's Growth Trajectory
This acquisition comes during a period of strong growth for Yellow Card, following a successful $40 million funding round in August 2026, which included contributions from prominent investors such as Standard Chartered Bank and Sony. Additionally, Yellow Card has secured recent regulatory approvals and registrations in Canada, Switzerland, Nigeria, Ghana, and Zimbabwe, which are critical for its expansion strategy.
Looking ahead, Yellow Card aims to deepen its presence in key strategic markets while expanding product capabilities and strengthening essential partnerships to support businesses operating globally. By integrating GoMoney's established operations in Brazil, Yellow Card is well-positioned to enhance its service offerings and solidify its status as a leading player in the global financial infrastructure for cryptocurrencies.
