Maggie Spell Rejoins Jones Walker as Chief Human Resources Officer
Jones Walker LLP has announced the exciting return of Maggie Spell as their first Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). Previously a partner in the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, Maggie has a strong background with the firm that dates back over a decade.
Maggie's career with Jones Walker began in August 2009 as an associate in their New Orleans office. She quickly established herself as an essential asset, rising to the role of partner in January 2017 and serving until April 2022. During her initial stint, she excelled in addressing employment-related disputes and provided comprehensive compliance advice for workplace issues.
In her new role as CHRO, Maggie will oversee a variety of pivotal HR activities across the firm. Responsibilities will include managing employee benefits, implementing wellness programs, and fostering the recruitment and advancement of the support staff. Moreover, she will spearhead professional development initiatives and lead efforts focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization.
Bill Hines, managing partner at Jones Walker, expressed enthusiasm over Maggie's appointment, stating, "We are delighted for Maggie to return to the firm as CHRO. Her knowledge and vision will be instrumental in driving HR initiatives that align with the firm's mission and objectives, as well as support our firm's growth and success."
Maggie’s vision for her role is not only focused on operational matters; she aims to cultivate a culture of trust and innovation within the workplace. "Serving as Chief Human Resources Officer is not just a role – it is a chance to build the foundation for a culture of trust, growth, and innovation where every employee can thrive," she said in her remarks. Maggie underscores that her extensive experience as an employment attorney and her strong relationships built over twelve years with the firm position her well for this critical role.
Maggie’s qualifications extend beyond just her legal expertise. Before rejoining Jones Walker, she held the position of Director of Operations at Magnolia Community Services, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This experience not only honed her leadership and operational skills but also provided her with a unique perspective on organizational dynamics that will benefit her in her new role at Jones Walker.
The firm, which ranks among the top 145 law firms in the United States, maintains a diverse client base spanning local, regional, national, and international business interests. With an ongoing commitment to delivering a comprehensive range of legal services, Maggie’s role as CHRO will be essential in ensuring that their human resource operations align with the firm’s strategic goals.
As Maggie Spell steps into this pivotal role, she is well positioned to make a substantial impact on the firm’s HR practices, driving a culture that supports employee well-being and organizational success. Her return marks a significant step towards enhancing the firm's commitment to its employees and fostering an inclusive and productive work environment.
