Terra Drone Signs MOU with Aramco for Drone Innovations
On April 3, 2025, in Tokyo,
Terra Drone Corporation, a global leader in drone services for the year 2024, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with
Aramco, a prominent integrated energy and chemicals company based in Saudi Arabia. This strategic alliance aims to expedite numerous innovations focusing on drone technology, robotics, and AI-driven solutions tailored for the oil and gas sector, while simultaneously promoting localization efforts within the region.
The signing ceremony saw participation from notable figures, including
Toru Tokushige, the founder and CEO of Terra Drone, and
Khalid Y. Alqahtani, Senior Vice President of Engineering Services at Aramco. Their collaboration is intended to bolster the integration of drone technologies that enhance safety and efficiency in the energy industry.
The MOU serves as a launching pad for innovation in research and development (R&D), technology testing, training, and localization, in line with the shared vision of both organizations to develop solutions and local capabilities that support Saudi Arabia's economic objectives.
In a context where the energy sector increasingly seeks advanced technology to optimize operations, this partnership is expected to yield substantial advancements in safety protocols and operational efficiency. Terrestrial drone solutions can drastically improve inspection processes and data management for energy companies by providing real-time data collection and analysis.
In 2023, Terra Drone received substantial funding from
Wa'ed Ventures to localize advanced drone technologies, leading to the establishment of
Terra Drone Arabia. This division aims to focus on three strategic objectives: the immediate localization of its service offerings, the long-term development of R&D and production facilities, and the promotion of job creation for skilled Saudi nationals.
Toru Tokushige elaborated on the partnership, stating, “This MOU reflects our commitment to fostering innovation and supports localization efforts aligning with Aramco's vision. Through Terra Drone Arabia, we aim to introduce cutting-edge drone technologies that improve safety, enhance efficiency, and develop the workforce.”
The signing of this MOU not only sharpens the partnership between Terra Drone and Aramco but also facilitates the application of innovative drone solutions that address pressing challenges faced by the energy sector. Using its expertise and local presence, Terra Drone will support Aramco’s operations and contribute to the technological and economic advancement in Saudi Arabia.
This collaboration resonates with Terra Drone's commitment to localization, talent development, and building a competitive drone industry that supports the Kingdom’s economic diversification goals.
