Kunihiko Nohara's Exhibition 'Time Collage' at Roppongi Tsutaya
From April 10 to April 30, 2026, Roppongi Tsutaya in Minato, Tokyo, will host the exhibition 'Time Collage' featuring the works of artist Kunihiko Nohara. This exhibition showcases a series of new wooden sculptures that center around the theme of capturing 'comforting moments' found in everyday life. Nohara aims to visually express memories and experiences that resonate with viewers, inviting them to reflect on their own timelines through art.
The featured works prominently display figures wearing goggles, a symbolic representation of tranquil memories that visit us in our daily routines. By skillfully harnessing the texture and color of wood, Nohara creates sculptures that materialize the intangible aspects of memory and sensation, encouraging viewers to engage deeply with each piece by intertwining their experiences with the artwork.
Highlighted Artwork: 'SHABON'
One of the standout pieces in the exhibition is 'SHABON', a wooden sculpture towering approximately 140 cm. Crafted from a single piece of wood, it showcases not only the beauty of the material but also the meticulous detailing that defines its structure. The gentle hues and the tactile quality of the wood harmonize to cultivate a serene atmosphere that allows observers to experience a quiet flow of time. Attendees are encouraged to visit and appreciate the physical form of 'SHABON' in person.
Live Demonstrations
Throughout the exhibition period, Nohara will also conduct live demonstrations of his creative process, including live drawing and painting sessions. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to observe the evolution of his art firsthand.

About Kunihiko Nohara
Born in 1982 in Hokkaido, Kunihiko Nohara completed his master's degree in sculpture at Hiroshima City University Graduate School of Art in 2007. His primary focus is wood carving, yet his artistic practice expands into various mediums, including mixed media and installations. Nohara's work captures and preserves those gratifying and comforting moments that often go unnoticed in daily life. His motifs, like clouds, bubbles, and scents, merge with themes of memory and reminiscence, evoking a sense of shared experience for viewers. The goggles serve as a metaphorical tool for spectators to recalibrate their perceptions, reminiscent of enjoyable moments such as sipping cappuccino, indulging in desserts, or appreciating favorite landscapes.
Notable past exhibitions include 'Revisiting Forgotten Time: HOTEL VISON × Sculptor Kunihiko Nohara' (HOTEL VISON, Mie Prefecture, 2026), 'A Party at the Bookstore' (Ginza Tsutaya GINZA ATRIUM, Tokyo, 2018), and 'Wonderful Times' (Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, 2017). Nohara is also a featured artist at gallery UG.
