Taiwan's Leadership in Circular Economy at APCER & Hotspot 2025
The Asia Pacific Circular Economy Roundtable & Hotspot 2025 (APCER & Hotspot 2025) recently concluded in Taipei, marking a significant milestone in regional collaboration for sustainable economic practices. This event, co-hosted by several of Taiwan's key governmental bodies, gathered over 500 participants from 50 countries, including policymakers, industry leaders, and academics, to enhance circular cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region.
Over the past few years, Taiwan has made impressive strides in developing its circular economy. In 2024, the green technology sector in Taiwan generated more than NT$500 billion (approximately US$15 billion) in added value, contributing to 2% of the country's GDP. Notably, the circular economy sector has emerged as the leader within this domain, outperforming others in value-added output and employment growth, boasting an annual growth rate nearing 10%. These developments underscore the pivotal role that circular economy initiatives play in Taiwan's ongoing industrial transformation.
