Kolmar Korea Launches Second Plant in the U.S., Establishing a Tariff-Free Zone for K-Beauty

Kolmar Korea Expands Its Presence in the U.S.

Kolmar Korea has officially launched operations at its second manufacturing facility in the United States, marking a significant advancement for the K-Beauty industry in the country. Situated in Scott Township, Pennsylvania, this new plant has been strategically designed to bolster the company's global footprint and create a robust manufacturing ecosystem amidst growing trade tensions.

The company celebrated the grand opening of the facility on July 16, attended by notable figures including Yoon Sang Hyun, the Vice Chairman of Kolmar Group. He shared his vision for the plant, emphasizing that it will serve as a cornerstone for innovation and collaboration within the cosmetics sector. Yoon stated, "This second plant in the U.S. is not just a production site; it's the beginning of a new journey towards growth and partnership within the beauty industry. We aim to establish the largest cosmetics manufacturing hub in North America."

With an expansive area of 17,805 square meters, the new facility is equipped to produce an annual output of up to 120 million units. When combined with the existing plant, Kolmar USA boasts a total production capacity of 300 million units per year. Additionally, taking into account their operations in Canada, Kolmar Korea's North American production capacity increases to 470 million units, solidifying its position as a leading Original Development Manufacturer (ODM) of cosmetic products in the region.

This new facility specializes in manufacturing skincare products and sunscreens, both of which are witnessing a surge in demand across the U.S. market. Notably, Kolmar has secured FDA certification for the production of over-the-counter (OTC) sunscreen products, allowing the company to swiftly cater to the increasing interest in K-Beauty sunscreens.

Kolmar Korea prides itself on its advanced manufacturing techniques, exemplified by its commitment to the "MADE BY KOLMAR" standard. This expertise, honed at its Sejong facility in South Korea, has now been implemented in the new U.S. facility to replicate the high standards customers have come to expect. The new plant features specialized areas for manufacturing, filling, and packaging, all designed to optimize and ensure quality control with cutting-edge AI technology, which allows for minimized defect rates. Remarkably, 80% of the production processes have been fully automated to enhance efficiency while ensuring worker safety.

Moreover, this strategic move is expected to significantly mitigate the risk of tariffs on imported cosmetic products by providing robust local production options for both Korean and international brands aiming to penetrate the American market. A company spokesperson remarked, “This facility represents a historic achievement for a Korean cosmetics company, being the first to build a production plant directly in the U.S. rather than acquiring one. We are fully prepared to support K-Beauty brands looking to enter the American market without tariff concerns, as well as international clients targeting markets in North America, Europe, and South America. We are ready for rapid expansion through our collaborative ecosystem.”

In summary, by launching its second plant in the U.S., Kolmar Korea is not only expanding its manufacturing capabilities but is also establishing a strong base for K-Beauty, ensuring a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving cosmetics landscape.
