Shake Shack Celebrates 10 Years in Japan with Charitable Initiative

In a heartfelt gesture to mark its 10th anniversary in Japan, Shake Shack, the renowned burger restaurant founded in New York, organized a charitable event known as the 'Great Japanese Shake Sale.' Conducted over four days from November 13th to 16th, 2025, across all 18 nationwide Shake Shack outlets, this initiative not only celebrated a decade of deliciousness but also aimed to give back to the community that has supported the brand throughout its journey.

The event was rooted in Shake Shack's brand mission, 'Stand For Something Good™'. This philosophy emphasizes the restaurant's commitment to connecting people and communities through food. The 'Great Japanese Shake Sale' was a way for Shake Shack to express gratitude to its customers, partners, and local communities that have supported it since its inauguration in Japan.

As part of the initiative, patrons were invited to donate 200 yen at the register. In return, each donor received a Shake Ticket for a small Classic Shake. This straightforward donation process encouraged participation at all levels while reinforcing the importance of community support. By the end of the sale, the total amount collected reached an impressive 1,575,600 yen. All proceeds were donated to the Hatachi Fund, a public interest corporation that actively supports children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

The Hatachi Fund has been dedicated to helping children from the Tohoku region since 2011, focusing on their education and independence over a planned duration of 20 years. The funds raised during the 'Great Japanese Shake Sale' will be instrumental in supporting local initiatives tailored to meet the needs of these children, ensuring they have safe spaces to learn and grow.

The unique aspect of the 'Great Japanese Shake Sale' lies in its adaptation from the original 'Great American Shake Sale' in the United States, refashioned to resonate with Japanese audiences. It encourages all participants, both givers and receivers, to spread kindness through the simple act of sharing a shake. This charitable endeavor successfully intertwines Shake Shack's love for food with the goal of fostering positive connections within the society.

Shake Shack remains committed to ongoing social contributions and aims to strengthen its bonds with customers and local communities nationwide. The team expresses heartfelt thanks to all those who participated and contributed to the charity efforts.

In addition to its charitable pursuits, Shake Shack is recognized for its commitment to high-quality food and sustainable practices. Founded by Danny Meyer, creator of the acclaimed Union Square Hospitality Group, the restaurant emphasizes using premium, safe ingredients and eco-friendly designs. Shake Shack is not just a restaurant; it holds a significant place in promoting community support and various initiatives that extend well beyond conventional dining experiences.

As for the Hatachi Fund, they expressed deep appreciation for the generosity shown by Shake Shack's customers. With many children who experienced the earthquake now reaching adulthood, the support from such initiatives has been crucial in helping these young individuals thrive despite the odds.

The 'Great Japanese Shake Sale' stands not just as a celebration of a decade of Shake Shack in Japan but also as a committed effort to uplift communities and nurture the hopes and dreams of Japan's future generations. The donations received will undoubtedly provide invaluable support for local programs, ensuring that the children of Tohoku can continue to learn, grow, and aspire in a safe environment.
