Marine Week Chicago: A Grand Celebration of 250 Years of Marine Excellence

Celebrating 250 Years of Honor: Marine Week Chicago 2025

The United States Marine Corps is gearing up for an extraordinary event, Marine Week Chicago, which marks a significant milestone: the 250th birthday of the Corps. Scheduled for July 10-13, 2025, this week-long celebration will be a tribute to the valiant history, courage, and commitment of Marines, as well as a chance for the community to connect with those who serve.

As part of their year-long birthday festivities, this event promises a vibrant display of performances, public engagements, and various activities designed to honor veterans and inspire the next generation of military leaders. Activities will unfold across iconic locations such as Navy Pier®, Plaza of the Americas, and various other sites throughout Chicago.

A Rich Heritage and Community Engagement

Col. J.J. Wilson, the commander of the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force 250, expressed gratitude towards the Chicago community for hosting this celebratory week. He highlighted Chicago's critical role in the defense of the nation, noting its historical connection to the 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines Regiment and the 9th Marine Corps District. Through Marine Week, the Marines aim to give back to the city and showcase their ongoing commitment to excellence.

The week is set to kick off with an opening ceremony at Plaza of the Americas near the Chicago River, featuring a performance from the renowned Quantico Marine Band and remarks from distinguished dignitaries. Moreover, throughout the week, the Marines will host public workouts, inviting community members to join them for morning physical training sessions designed for all ages. This unique opportunity not only promotes fitness but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and connection.

A Thrill of Showcasing Marine Skills

From July 10 to 13, attendees can look forward to daily colors ceremonies at the Plaza of the Americas, where the ceremonial presentation of the national flag will take place each morning and evening. Additionally, there will be a large display of Marine Corps equipment at Pioneer Court near the iconic Wrigley Building. This hands-on experience will allow the public to engage directly with Marines, try on gear, and even take part in strength-testing challenges, including a pull-up contest.

Honoring Their Sacrifice

The week also serves as a poignant reminder of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Daily wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to honor the lives and legacies of Marines lost in various conflicts, including the Korean War and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Observers are invited to pay their respects during these solemn ceremonies.

Community Spirit and Entertainment

On June 11, participants can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the Windy City Smokeout Country Music and BBQ Festival, where Marine Corps recruiters will be present, along with a fun pull-up bar challenge. Later that day, the Premier Lacrosse League match will feature the Marine Corps Color Guard, with a vocal performance by a member of the Quantico Marine Band during the national anthem.

The week’s grand finale emerges on July 13 with the commemoration ceremony, where the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday will be celebrated with a cake-cutting alongside a performance by the Silent Drill Platoon and more music from the Quantico Marine Rock Band.
