CATACARB® Wins Carbon Remover Award at Carbon Capture Canada 2025
CATACARB® Receives the Carbon Remover Award at Carbon Capture Canada 2025
On October 15, 2025, CATACARB proudly announced that it had received the prestigious Carbon Remover Award during the Carbon Capture Canada event. This national initiative focuses on innovative methods for capturing and storing carbon, underscoring the importance of effective CO2 elimination technologies.
The Carbon Remover Award celebrates remarkable technologies and processes that excel in the innovative and efficient removal of carbon dioxide. It serves to recognize organizations that significantly contribute to developing and deploying carbon elimination methods crucial for combatting climate change.
CATACARB earned this award largely due to its integral role in the Stockholm Exergi project, recognized as Europe's first large-scale negative emissions facility. By licensing its advanced hot potassium carbonate (HPC) technology, CATACARB provided comprehensive process design and continued technical support to Stockholm Exergi and its engineering partner, Saipem.
Tobias Pelicano, the Project Director at Stockholm Exergi, acknowledged the partnership, stating, "The collaboration between Stockholm Exergi and CATACARB has been foundational in the design of our new bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) facility. CATACARB has consistently been responsive to our needs and requirements throughout various design phases, providing us with excellent support."
This prestigious award highlights CATACARB's leadership in commercial CO2 elimination solutions and its commitment to accelerating the deployment of proven technologies that mitigate atmospheric carbon. The Stockholm Exergi project exemplifies how applied engineering, licensing partnerships, and collaborative project execution can advance sustainable carbon elimination at an industrial scale. This facility is projected to prevent 800,000 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year.
Gary Buckholz, CEO of CATACARB, accepted the award on behalf of A. G. Eickmeyer, the developer of CATACARB technology refined over the past 65 years, and Marc Donnelly, Vice President and General Manager of CATACARB, who leads the engineering team behind this significant work.
