ChangAn Automobile Unveils Ambitious Global Strategy at Auto Shanghai 2025
ChangAn Automobile, a trailblazer in intelligent low-carbon mobility, showcased its bold vision for the future at Auto Shanghai 2025, held from April 23 to May 2 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. Uniting under the theme "Together for a Smarter World," the company presented three strategic action plans that promise to redefine its global approach.
New Energy Mission: Shangri-La
The first of these initiatives is the Shangri-La mission, which outlines an ambitious expansion of its product lineup over the next five years. This plan includes the introduction of 45 entirely new models, with 37 of those powered by new energy sources. Notably, in 2025 alone, ChangAn aims to launch 20 new models, including electric vehicles such as AVATR 06, DEEPAL S09, and CHANG-AN Q07.
Working in partnership with CATL, a leader in lithium battery technology, ChangAn is advancing key electrolyte technologies and accelerating the development of semiconductor batteries. The company plans to reveal a prototype by the end of 2025, with installation tests slated for 2026 and mass production expected to commence by 2027. Additionally, they introduced the intelligent battery collision monitoring system and the Kirin 4C fast-charging battery, which emphasizes their commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Dubhe 2.0 Plan for AI Development
Next is the Dubhe 2.0 plan, which signifies a significant investment of 20 billion yuan over five years in developing advanced AI models and comprehensive assisted driving systems. This plan will see a further 20 billion yuan directed towards the burgeoning flying car sector. With the Intelligent TS Drive system set to be improved with over 50 smart functions, the assisted driving technology will be tailored to various user needs, culminating in five different versions. The LiDAR PRO version is anticipated to enter mass production by late 2025, reflecting ChangAn's commitment to innovation in autonomous driving technology.
Looking ahead, the company expects to invest over 200 billion yuan into new automotive technologies over the next decade, including testing programs for flying cars and humanoid robots by 2028. Their NextLab facility in Shanghai serves as a hub for global design innovation, underscoring their ambition for technological leadership.
Vast Ocean: Global Expansion Strategy
The third strategic plan, Vast Ocean, envisions more than $15 billion in international investments by 2030, with a target of achieving annual international vehicle sales of 1.5 million units and expanding its overseas workforce to 10,000 employees. This global market strategy is aligned with an organization structure called "6+2" which aligns five key regions with China’s strategic standards. The plan will see the international market capacity increase from 30 million to 50 million vehicles.
Eleven KD (knock-down) assembly projects will be launched in countries like Kazakhstan and Egypt, adding 500,000 units to production capacity. ChangAn is also looking to penetrate new markets in Brazil, Algeria, Indonesia, Germany, and Australia by 2026 to establish comprehensive coverage in five major regions.
Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
Zhu Huarong, Chairman of ChangAn Automobile, emphasized the company’s steadfast determination despite the challenges ahead, stating, "With our historical spirit of innovation through change and resilience against adversity, combined with deep cultural heritage and strategic execution, we are confident in our ability to navigate these challenges, speed up our quality transformation, and realize our vision of building a world-class automotive brand." He added that ChangAn is committed to leading sustainable mobility and enhancing the quality of life for humanity.
