A Year of Japanese Wine: Experience 365 Types
In the bustling streets of Osaka and Tokyo, the excitement for Japanese wine is about to reach new heights. Starting September 1, 2025, Papille Company, known for its successful ventures like the Wine Shop FUJIMARU and the Fujimaru Winery, is launching an innovative project: "Nihon Wine 365 Days". This initiative aims to make Japanese wine a part of daily life for everyone by offering a different selection each day for just 500 yen.
What is "Nihon Wine 365 Days"?
As the name suggests, this initiative will unveil a unique Japanese wine every day of the year at an affordable price. Wine lovers can embark on a journey through flavors, sampling selections from regions across Japan, including Hokkaido, Yamanashi, Nagano, and Kyushu, as if going on a grape-gathering tour throughout the country.
Growth of Japanese Wine Industry
Over the past decade, the number of wineries in Japan has nearly doubled, producing an impressive variety of wines that showcase regional characteristics. Events have sprung up both domestically and internationally, and as a result, Japanese wine bars, restaurants, and specialty shops are gaining popularity in urban settings. Several areas also host events to promote local wines, bolstering the country's tourism assets.
However, while the Japanese wine scene is blossoming, it often depends on a few notable wineries. Many new entrants face hefty equipment costs, which can raise prices, making it difficult for consumers to explore the market. Therefore, despite more wineries cropping up, it cannot be said that Japanese wine is widely consumed in everyday life.
The Vision Behind the Initiative
Understanding these challenges, Papille Company believes the first step is to encourage people to easily experience Japanese wine. The "Nihon Wine 365 Days" program is designed to create an inviting space where attendees can meet different wines daily, showcasing the diversity and complexity within the Japanese wine scene. Along with unique selections typically not available by the glass, this initiative aims to break down barriers and elevate the enjoyment of local wines, making it truly part of everyday life for all.
