The 137th Canton Fair: A Booming Market for Toys Across All Ages

The recent 137th China Import and Export Fair, popularly known as the Canton Fair, took place from May 1 to May 5, 2025. Throughout this event, approximately 11,759 exhibitors showcased their products, emphasizing the theme of “Better Life.” This year's fair marked a significant trend in the global toy industry, highlighting how Chinese manufacturers are responding to a growing demand for toys designed not just for children but for consumers of all ages.

One standout exhibitor was Shantou City Chenghai Area Huada Toy Co., Ltd, known for its innovative plastic building blocks. At their booth, they unveiled a stunning installation: a wall of vibrant, artificial flowers, cleverly constructed from their building blocks. This captivating display not only attracted attention but also showcased their latest product line that redefines building blocks as elegant decorative pieces suitable for homes and offices.

According to Chen Xiaowei, the company's deputy marketing director, this collection signifies a shift in toy evolution. “Toys are no longer just for kids. We are witnessing a growing trend among young adults who appreciate the creative process and the aesthetic value of the finished product,” he explained. They have even launched a sub-brand called PANLOS, specifically targeting consumers aged 18 to 35.

Moreover, Guangdong SYMA Model Aircraft Industrial Co., Ltd attracted visitors with their latest offerings of aerial toys, such as remote-controlled helicopters, foldable drones, and stunt-performing airplanes. Equipped with smart sensors and one-touch stunt features, these toys appeal to beginners and seasoned hobbyists alike, making them attractive to a wide demographic, from children to adults. Huang Zebin, the marketing director at SYMA, observed that the fair provides extraordinary opportunities due to its scale and the diverse international buyers it draws. The Canton Fair often opens doors for unforeseen possibilities that go beyond their initial expectations.

The rising popularity of “toys for all ages” marks a shift towards consumption preferences that emphasize experience and emotional engagement. This insight drives companies to reevaluate traditional product boundaries and explore new avenues for growth. By focusing on advanced design, precision manufacturing, and user-centered innovation, Chinese suppliers are well-positioned to lead the expanding global toy market.

As the trade show concluded, the sentiment in the air was one of optimism about the toy industry's evolution. The fair exemplified a commitment to creativity, functionality, and an inclusive market approach—a blend that is likely to resonate with consumers in the years to come. With numerous brands and innovative solutions showcased, the Canton Fair has undoubtedly set the stage for the future direction of the toy market.”
