New Matcha Stand 'Hachijuh Shibuya' Set to Open in July 2025

New Matcha Haven: Hachijuh Shibuya

Exciting news for matcha lovers! Hachijuh Shibuya, a new matcha stand hailing from Kyoto, is set to open its doors on July 1, 2025. Operated by room Co., Ltd., which runs the well-known Japanese tea shop Hachijuh Ryoyosha, this new location aims to bring a unique matcha experience to the vibrant yet tranquil alley of Okushibuya, just a stone's throw away from the bustling heart of Shibuya.

A Taste of Tradition and Modernity

Nestled in a central area of Kamiyama Street, Hachijuh Shibuya juxtaposes a calming atmosphere with an eclectic mix of shops. This new spot will not only offer takeout drinks, but also limited-time summer specials such as Hachijuh Ice and Hachijuh Monaka, providing patrons with an authentic taste of Kyoto in Tokyo.

Location and Ambiance

Conveniently located within a 5-minute walk from Yoyogi Park, guests can enjoy a refreshing matcha latte or delightful sweets during their stroll or shopping trip in Okushibuya. The store's interior features a large, circular counter made of unique naguri wood, a technique first used by the famous tea master Sen no Rikyū, harmonizing traditional aesthetics with modern design.

The counter is connected by independent columns, drawing the eye to its impressive structure. The design reflects a fusion of the nostalgic Showa era decor and contemporary elements, creating a cozy yet stylish environment ideal for enjoying quality Japanese tea.

A noteworthy addition is the spacious terrace, which welcomes guests to relax with their loyal pets while sipping on their choice of matcha. This friendly atmosphere enhances the experience of relishing matcha amidst the serene vibe of the neighborhood.

Summer Specials: A Treat Like No Other

Among the highlights of the menu is the summer-exclusive Hachijuh Ice priced at 1,600 yen. This delightful treat, once only available at the Hachijuh Ryoyosha in Arashiyama, features homemade matcha milk, matcha espuma, and a topping of creamy matcha ice cream. Guests can customize their treat with matcha syrup for a refreshing twist.

Additionally, the store introduces the Hachijuh Monaka, a sweet made with specially crafted matcha red bean paste sandwiched in a delicate monaka shell for 400 yen. This elegant dessert pairs perfectly with Ishigaki salt, enhancing the flavor profiles, setting it apart as a must-try offering exclusive to Hachijuh Shibuya.

Classic Drinks and More

Returning enthusiasts will find familiar favorites like the Matcha Latte Ichi, which is brewed fresh with a bamboo whisk, available for 800 yen. For those seeking extravagance, the Hachijuh Shake combines rich matcha with Baturema sugar, providing a delicious summer refreshment that encapsulates the essence of Japanese flavors.
