Mars, Incorporated Partners with National 4-H Council to Empower Youth with $3 Million Grant

In a bold move to cultivate future leaders in agriculture and veterinary sciences, Mars, Incorporated has unveiled a noteworthy partnership with the National 4-H Council, pledging a substantial $3 million over the next three years. This funding aims to bolster the Beyond Ready program, an initiative designed to provide young people with vital skills and opportunities necessary for success in an evolving career landscape.

Mars, a company with a considerable footprint in the snacking and pet care sectors, is leveraging its philanthropic arm, the Mars Impact Fund, to facilitate this transformative effort. The collaboration is set to empower up to 200,000 youth across the United States, equipping them with the knowledge and practical experience required for thriving careers in food, agriculture, and veterinary sciences.

Michelle Grogg, Executive Director of the Mars Impact Fund, emphasized the company's long-term vision rooted in generation-spanning initiatives aimed at inspiring youth towards scientific vocations. "As a family-owned business for 115 years, we prioritize innovation and aim to connect young people with careers in food science and agriculture that are increasingly critical for the future," she noted. This acknowledgment of a growing demand for skilled professionals in these fields underpins Mars' commitment.

The funds will be utilized in a phased approach, tapping into the rich resources of 4-H's Cooperative Extension network, which consists of over 100 public universities known for offering experiential learning opportunities. Programs will be tailored to meet local community needs and interests, ensuring relevance and engagement.

Innovative initiatives will be rolled out by partner universities to facilitate experiential learning. For instance, California 4-H plans to create a mobile veterinary education lab, making hands-on learning an accessible reality for teens in Monterey and Santa Barbara Counties. Similarly, Florida 4-H will offer practical workshops and academies covering a wide array of topics including food science, agricultural sciences, and emerging agricultural technologies, allowing students to explore various career avenues in these fields.

In Georgia, the Career Connections initiative will prepare teens for the workforce through a comprehensive pathway in agriculture and food science, while Illinois 4-H aims to connect youth with professionals to enable meaningful contacts and experiences.

The program also aims to address specific themes such as food security and animal health; Michigan 4-H focuses on agricultural and veterinary sciences, while Tennessee 4-H will implement a year-round veterinary science program, engaging youth in practical learning experiences.

Additionally, 20 selected teens annually will receive scholarships to participate in the National 4-H Council's Ignite program, a summit specifically designed to explore vocational pathways and foster leadership skills. Heather Elliott, Chief Development and Marketing Officer at the National 4-H Council, expressed excitement regarding this opportunity. She believes that introducing students to real-world applications of these careers will ignite their curiosity and ambition.

Through strategic partnerships such as this, the Mars Impact Fund continues to enhance its global outreach and commitment to social responsibility. Since its inception earlier this year, the Fund has already committed over $20 million towards various initiatives aimed at fostering resilience, scientific progress, and the well-being of companion animals, reinforcing Mars's dedication to their corporate mission.

Mars, Incorporated stands as a $65 billion family-owned entity, recognized not just for its popular food and pet care products, but also for its concerted efforts towards community empowerment and sustainable practices. The National 4-H Council, celebrated as the nation's largest youth development organization, provides valuable resources and support, helping to cultivate confidence and practical skills in millions of youths.

As this partnership unfolds, it sets a precedent for future collaborations that focus on harnessing potential and transforming aspirations into reality for the younger generation, thus paving the way for a robust future in crucial sectors of our economy.
