SSP International Welcomes Amy Hee Kim as New Chief Program Officer to Enhance STEM Education

SSP International, Inc. Welcomes Amy Hee Kim as Chief Program Officer

SSP International, Inc. (SSPI) has officially appointed Amy Hee Kim as its new Chief Program Officer. This strategic move aims to bolster the growth and influence of SSPI's educational programs on both national and global scales. With extensive experience in advancing diversity in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Kim is well-positioned to lead the organization forward.

A Leader in STEM Education

Kim holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry and has over 15 years of expertise in fostering diverse educational environments within the STEM fields. Her previous role as Executive Director at EnCorps saw her helping many professionals transition into teaching, particularly in underserved schools. This experience is crucial for SSPI, which has a strong focus on inclusivity and access to quality STEM education.

Before EnCorps, Amy played significant roles at Technovation, where she spearheaded initiatives empowering young girls in technology and entrepreneurship across over 80 countries, and at USC's Viterbi School of Engineering managing STEM diversity projects. Her efforts have consistently centered around building strong partnerships to enrich educational opportunities.

Expanding Opportunities for Students

In her new role, Kim will take charge of SSPI’s flagship program, the Summer Science Program, which is designed to immerse high school students in intense, academically rigorous research experiences. This initiative not only encourages curiosity among young learners but also ignites a passion for lifelong discovery in scientific fields.

CEO Frank Steslow expressed his excitement about Kim’s appointment, highlighting her unique blend of scientific knowledge and operational prowess. “Amy’s history of leading impactful programs aligns perfectly with our mission at SSPI. We believe her leadership will significantly expand our outreach and inspire future generations in their scientific endeavors,” stated Steslow.

As the Chief Program Officer, Kim will be responsible for overseeing the strategy, operations, evaluation, staff development, and partnerships that revolve around SSPI’s various initiatives. She aims to develop new programs that cater to students from under-resourced communities, ensuring they have the same opportunities as their peers to explore scientific fields.

A Vision for the Future

“Joining SSPI is an exciting opportunity for me,” Kim remarked. “I am determined to collaborate with the talented team here to introduce programs that make a genuine difference in students' lives. SSPI’s initiatives have proven to be transformative, and I look forward to growing our impact and helping more students ignite their passion for science.”

Founded in 1959, SSP International, Inc. has been committed to providing students with the opportunities to engage with science in meaningful ways. Through their programs, they focus on cultivating a sense of belonging and appreciation for the STEM fields among young learners. With Kim at the helm of program development, SSPI is poised to further its mission and do more for the communities it serves.
