AAKP's 50th National Patient Meeting in Dallas, Texas
The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is gearing up for a landmark event as it hosts its
50th Annual National Patient Meeting in Dallas, Texas, from
October 3 to October 5, 2025. This prestigious gathering will take place at the Doubletree by Hilton, located in Fort Worth South. AAKP, recognized as the oldest and largest kidney patient advocacy organization in the United States, plays a vital role in enhancing the lives of kidney patients through education and advocacy.
This year's theme,
"50 Proud Years of Patient Education, 50 Years of Saving Lives, 50 Years of Saving Livelihoods," encapsulates the long-standing commitment of AAKP towards empowering kidney patients. The meeting promises a hybrid format, enabling participants both in person and virtually, which emphasizes the organization’s continuing mission to reach a wider audience. Attendees will engage with a wide array of
expert speakers and influencers from diverse aspects of the kidney disease community. These figures include patient advocates, U.S. government representatives, healthcare professionals, educators, private industry experts, and members from various non-profit organizations.
During the conference, participants can look forward to in-depth discussions on the latest advancements in kidney-related research and technologies. Specific topics will include
Cardiovascular-Renal-Metabolic Health, innovations involving
artificial intelligence, advancements in
artificial organs including
xenotransplants, and crucial aspects surrounding
infection prevention, and
anemia management. Moreover, the event will highlight progress in
Veterans' kidney health, spotlight issues concerning
acute kidney injury, and explore new patient-centered decision-making tools developed by kidney patients themselves.
In 2019, AAKP highlighted
2020-2030 as The Decade of the Kidney™. This initiative aims to refocus the national conversation on unmet patient needs while striving to eliminate roadblocks to innovation and care that prevent timely disease prevention. AAKP underlines kidney disease as a significant American healthcare challenge, tackling its implications not only on health but also on employment, disability, and patient independence. The organization is also at the forefront of efforts to enact essential laws and policies that benefit kidney patients. Their
KidneyVoters™ program stands as a premier nonpartisan voter registration initiative, rallying kidney patients, organ donors, transplant recipients, and healthcare professionals to participate actively in civic engagement.
About AAKP: Founded in
1969, AAKP has continually advocated for kidney patients' needs, influencing key health policies and advancing medical innovations that enhance patient lives. Historical milestones include the pivotal role AAKP advocates played in the
1972 Congressional authorization of Medicare coverage for dialysis and transplantation, overseen by President Richard Nixon. In recent years, they have contributed to legislative transformations regarding organ donation, transplant drug coverage, and job protections for living organ donors.
