Inaugural Family Creative Festival at SSFF & ASIA 2025

The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), the largest international short film festival in Asia and recognized by the Academy Awards, is set to host its first-ever Family Creative Festival on June 7 and 8, 2025. The event will take place at LIFORK HARAJUKU, offering a unique opportunity for families to immerse themselves in the world of short films and creativity.

This year's theme, “A Place for Kids and Creators,” invites children to not just observe but also create. The festival aims to cultivate creativity and critical thinking among the young audience, allowing them to express their ideas through various hands-on workshops. Participants can engage in script writing classes, collaborate on creating movie flyers, and undergo video editing experiences using iPads.

The festival emphasizes the joy of creating and communicating ideas, enhancing not only viewing skills and creativity but also presentation skills as kids showcase their completed projects. Given the growing interaction children have with smartphones, social media, and video content, SSFF & ASIA hopes to help families discover new worlds together, translating ideas into creations, and enjoying the communication process.

Event Highlights

The Family Creative Festival will feature a specially curated “Kids Program,” which includes a diverse selection of high-quality short films from around the world. Screenings will introduce children and families to animated films that explore themes of coexistence, nature, and the wonders of the universe. Films from countries such as the United States, Ireland, France, Portugal, Canada, Switzerland, Italy, and Taiwan will be showcased, providing an immersive cultural experience for young audiences and their guardians.

Some highlights in the Kids Program include:

- MY WEAR: A film about a girl's journey with her special clothing, which ultimately embarks on an adventure after being outgrown.
- Supermoon: A charming animated tale about a puffin sibling duo on an island, eager to catch a glimpse of the supermoon.
- The Girl With The Occupied Eyes: This animation explores the consequences of being absorbed in technology, reminding viewers to appreciate the world around them.
- The Boxfish and the Sea of Minamata: A story of self-discovery as a shy boxfish finds friendship and courage through new adventures.

Films will primarily consist of non-dialogue shorts, making them accessible for pre-school children as well.

Workshops to Inspire Young Creators

As part of the festival, children can participate in workshops tailored to foster their creative talents. Workshops include:

- Kids Scenario Workshop: Led by seasoned professionals, this activity offers children a chance to craft their own stories by incorporating characters from the shorts they've watched. It promises to be an engaging and imaginative experience, suitable for kids of all ages.
