Huawei and SOLUM Launch Smart Shop-in-Shop Network Solution to Enhance Retail Intelligence
Huawei and SOLUM Unveil Smart Shop-in-Shop Network at MWC 2026
During the MWC Barcelona 2026, Huawei and SOLUM introduced an innovative smart converged network solution known as the shop-in-shop (SiS). This forward-thinking system is built upon a unified retail infrastructure platform that brings together digital structures and electronic shelf labels (ESL).
The collaborative effort reflects a commitment to creating a scalable and cost-effective architecture enabling retailers worldwide to establish efficient and streamlined store networks. This platform is particularly beneficial for retail environments with high traffic, such as large shopping centers, airports, and exhibition venues.
Hoy-Jin Lee, Senior Vice President of SOLUM Europe, explained that this new solution enhances their existing partnership focused on convergence solutions for Internet of Things (IoT) access points. The SiS initiative is tailored for shop-in-shop settings, allowing seamless integration between SOLUM's ESL displays and digital signage. Such a feature is pivotal for pop-up shops, dining establishments, and specialty retail outlets seeking independent, infrastructure-free solutions.
With the SiS solution, retailers can perform real-time content updates, manage operations efficiently, and easily enlarge their systems by configuring a single device. This ease of use enables retailers to streamline their digital touchpoints without relying on physical infrastructure, simplifying remote management processes.
The innovative design includes a unified gateway that operates with LTE, Wi-Fi, and ESL. By eliminating the need for separate ESL access points, it supports pre-emptive integration and plug-and-play deployment, alongside a secure, independent network architecture. Retailers can expect up to a 55% reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO), with potential savings of nearly 33% in larger stores.
The solution also enables nearly instantaneous responses, allowing retailers to synchronize promotional updates across global stores in real-time, regardless of their locations. “Together we developed a comprehensive retail infrastructure platform that unifies digital infrastructure and ESL into a single scalable and cost-efficient architecture”, said Hoy-Jin Lee.
With this launch, Huawei strengthens its smart retail offerings and continues to collaborate with SOLUM on innovations that explore AI applications within retail environments. This partnership signifies a deeper dive into the future of retail, underscoring Huawei's ambition to expedite the digital and intelligent evolution of the sector, which is crucial in today’s fast-paced commercial landscape. The introduction of this smart converged network represents a significant leap towards transforming retail operations and enhancing customer experiences worldwide.
The implementation of such advanced technologies will likely lead to a revolution in the retail industry, improving not only operational efficiencies but also customer engagement. As retail businesses increasingly adopt these innovative solutions, they will be better positioned to meet the dynamic demands of consumers in an ever-evolving market landscape.
