Randstad's Earth Day Plogging Challenge
In a bid to enhance employee engagement and contribute positively to the environment, Randstad Japan held its 'Randthon 2026 x Earth Day Plogging Challenge' from April 6 to April 30, 2026, in celebration of Earth Day. The initiative saw employees and their families participating actively, resulting in the impressive collection of 2508 liters of trash—an achievement that surpassed the initial goal of 2026 liters by 124%.
What is Plogging?
Plogging is a Swedish term that combines 'plocka upp,' meaning 'pick up,' and 'jogging.' The activity encourages people to pick up litter while jogging or walking, promoting both physical health and environmental awareness. It’s a unique and engaging way to motivate individuals to get outside, get active, and contribute to a cleaner planet.
Massive Participation Across the Nation
The challenge engaged a total of 204 participants across 20 locations nationwide, bringing together different departments and locations. Participants sported matching T-shirts, which fostered a sense of unity and teamwork as they worked towards a common goal. This initiative not only cleaned public spaces but also strengthened relationships among employees who often don’t meet in their daily work routines.
The regions involved included major cities like Sapporo, Niigata, Tochigi, Tokyo, Osaka, and Ehime, where people came together in a collaborative effort to make a tangible difference. Activities varied from casual walking to rigorous running, allowing participants to choose how best to join in based on their own comfort levels and fitness interests.
