Crowley's Torogoz: The New Era of Avance Class Shipping Begins Now

Crowley's Torogoz Starts Its Commercial Journey

Crowley's latest addition to its fleet, the Torogoz, has officially embarked on its first commercial voyage, marking a significant milestone in the company's logistics capabilities. Departing from Port Everglades, Florida, this vessel is set to enhance shipping services to Central America, including countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

The Torogoz is not just any ship; it forms part of Crowley’s ambitious Avance Class fleet, designed to handle a wide array of cargo efficiently. With a capacity of 1,400 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), the vessel is equipped to transport both dry and refrigerated goods—ranging from apparel to pharmaceuticals. This capacity will allow for faster and more reliable shipping services, addressing the growing demand for efficiency in the supply chain between the U.S. and Central America.

One standout feature of the Torogoz is its liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion system, which signifies Crowley's commitment to reducing maritime emissions. The use of LNG not only lowers greenhouse gas emissions but also enhances the ship's performance, offering a more sustainable approach to shipping.

According to Claudia Kattan-Jordan, Vice President of Crowley Logistics for Central America, the launch of the Torogoz completes their four-vessel Avance Class fleet and underscores the company's dedication to providing exceptional logistics solutions. "With the introduction of the Torogoz, we enhance our ability to deliver cargo swiftly and reliably to our customers," Kattan-Jordan stated. The benefits of the vessel extend beyond mere capacity; it offers flexibility in the types of goods transported, thereby facilitating trade in various sectors.

The Torogoz follows the Tiscapa, Quetzal, and Copán, its sister vessels, which also honor the rich cultural heritage of Central America through their names. Interestingly, the name Torogoz refers to the turquoise-browed motmot, the national bird of El Salvador, revered in Mesoamerican cultures for its beauty and spiritual significance.

For over 130 years, Crowley has been a leader in maritime and energy solutions, constantly innovating to meet customer needs. This new vessel not only expands their operational capabilities but also enhances trade connections in a region where the company has operated for more than six decades. Crowley's presence across 36 nations showcases their commitment to providing comprehensive logistics services on a global scale.

As the Torogoz sets sail, it symbolizes a new chapter in Crowley’s efforts to maintain reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible logistics solutions. With its modern design and advanced capabilities, the ship is poised to play a crucial role in enhancing trade between the U.S. and Central America, ultimately benefiting clients across various industries.
