Innovative Firefighting Ideas from the Future: The 2026 Contest Winners Announced

Future Fire Prevention Idea Contest 2026 Results Announced

Morita Holdings, based in Osaka, has unveiled the winners of the highly anticipated Future Fire Prevention Idea Contest 2026. This contest invited creative submissions from students across Japan, leading to outstanding innovations in four distinct categories. After thorough evaluation, a diverse array of entries was selected, showcasing unique approaches to fire safety and disaster prevention.

Elementary School Lower Grades Category

Winner: Ao Ichino (3rd Grade)

Ao Ichino presented a remarkable concept for a vehicle designed to operate during heavy rain and typhoons. The first standout feature of this vehicle is its ability to filter rainwater for drinking. Rainwater is collected through a funnel and suction port located on the vehicle’s exterior and filtered through an internal filtration system, where it is treated with chlorine to become potable. The second feature allows the vehicle to harness lightning, transforming it into electricity. It utilizes a lightning rod and drone at the top to capture lightning strikes, which are stored in a charging unit inside the vehicle, providing a renewable power source.

Elementary School Upper Grades Category

Winner: Nonoka Nawa (6th Grade)

Nonoka Nawa’s invention is a portable disaster prevention device that is both easy to use and affordable. Designed as a sticker, it can be placed almost anywhere, making it accessible to users, even those with hearing impairments. The device can visually signal when there is a leak, addressing issues like gas leaks, which are usually invisible. Infused with traditional Japanese motifs, these stickers also carry a charm-like quality, enhancing their appeal.

Middle School Category

Winner: Saku Nakamichi (1st Year)

Saku Nakamichi's innovation features an umbrella that transforms into a personal tent during emergencies. When disaster strikes and shelters are distant or unavailable, this intuitive design offers a sense of safety. With the umbrella’s framework easily expanded outwards, it functions as a compact tent. Inspired by the Mongolian ger, the setup allows for easy construction and storage. The umbrella’s handle is also adjustable, enhancing comfort and usability, and additional pockets can be integrated for storing essential emergency items like whistles or flashlights, ensuring its practicality beyond just emergencies.

High School Category

Winner: Yuu Aizawa (1st Year)

Yuu Aizawa conceptualized a revolutionary fire truck that refrains from extinguishing flames through water, instead opting for an approach that utilizes plants to encapsulate fires. Dubbed "Green Cocoon," this vehicle engages specialized seeds and nutrient mist to quickly grow vines and large leaves that envelop the fire, effectively cutting off oxygen and absorbing heat and smoke. Its design incorporates a mobile garden that nurtures plants onboard, allowing it to adapt to various challenges such as droughts or electrical fires. The unique features also include a flexible plant arm that may be utilized as an extension ladder or to reach heights, fostering a symbiotic relationship between nature and firefighting techniques. Furthermore, promoting the sale of household seeds and boosters may prevent larger wildfires while educating children on fire awareness through practical gardening exercises.
