India Set to Host Global Space Leaders at Karman Week 2025
India Set to Host Global Space Leaders at Karman Week 2025
The Karman Project, a global foundation dedicated to promoting peace and cooperation in space, has officially announced that its flagship event, Karman Week 2025, will take place in Bangalore, India, organized by global leader in Earth intelligence, SatSure. This highly anticipated annual meeting is set to attract 15 impactful global leaders in the space sector, including astronauts, agency directors, and industry executives, all coming together for a week-long event in October focused on strategic dialogue, cultural exchange, and showcasing innovations in space.
The selected cohort for this year comprises fellows from prominent organizations like Axiom Space, Airbus, the Saudi Space Agency, the UK Space Agency, and the Kenya Space Agency, among others. The collaboration between Karman Project and SatSure is rooted in a longstanding partnership, as Prateep Basu, the founder and CEO of SatSure, was named a Karman fellow in 2020. As part of his commitment to the fellowship, Basu initiated the SatSure Sparta platform, aimed at utilizing and modeling Earth observation data to enhance financial inclusion for Indian smallholder farmers. This partnership reflects their shared mission to drive meaningful, cross-sector action in the space domain and marks a significant milestone with Karman Week 2025.
Hannah Ashford, the Managing Director of Karman Project, remarked, "India not only leads in space exploration but is also a pioneer in applying space technologies to address pressing challenges such as agriculture, climate resilience, and disaster response. By bringing our fellowship to Bangalore, we are able to directly connect with this spirit of purposeful innovation and link our global leaders with one of the most dynamic, mission-oriented space ecosystems in the world."
Bangalore, acknowledged as India's primary space and technology hub, is home to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and a burgeoning ecosystem of startups and venture capitalists. Karman Week 2025 will emphasize India’s leadership in public-private partnerships, climate-focused space applications, and international cooperation. The program will feature direct interactions with the Indian space sector alongside selected cultural activities and a nature retreat aimed at building trust and promoting cross-border, cross-sector collaboration.
Prateep Basu further expressed, "Karman Week 2025 represents a significant moment for India's space ecosystem, and it is a privilege for us to host it in Bangalore. It presents an opportunity to showcase India's emerging innovations, particularly in spatial data and artificial intelligence, which tackle global challenges in agriculture, climate, and sustainable development at scale. As a Karman fellow, I have experienced firsthand the value of cross-border collaboration. We are excited to share India's journey and strengthen the dialogues that turn vision into impact."
Karman Week also signifies yet another milestone in what is shaping up to be a monumental 2025 for India in the space arena. This year has already witnessed India’s 100th launch from its main spaceport, the Global Conference on Space Exploration held in New Delhi, a docking maneuver between two satellites in orbit—which only three other nations have achieved—and the pioneering mission of ISRO astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, marking the first Indian to visit the International Space Station.
With the culmination of the Karman-SatSure alliance, the Indian private space sector is making a resounding statement about its commitment to fostering international cooperation and leveraging ISRO’s legacy of peaceful use of outer space.
In its sixth edition, Karman Week has previously taken place in countries including the United Arab Emirates, France, Maldives, and Bulgaria. This invitation-only event aims to deepen cooperation among the most responsible and influential players in the space sector globally. Further details regarding the program will be published later this year. For more information about the event or media inquiries, please contact [email protected].
