An Engaging Way to Learn Disaster Preparedness in Niigata
In collaboration with the Niigata Prefecture, MUJI's parent company, Ryohin Keikaku, is launching the largest-ever 'Itsumo no Moshimo CARAVAN' on September 6th and 7th, 2023. This event will take place at the Bandai Island Multipurpose Plaza in Niigata City. The initiative aims to combine enjoyment with the essential learning of disaster preparedness, and it aligns with the larger disaster preparedness event, "Bousai Kokutai 2025 in Niigata."
The 'Itsumo no Moshimo CARAVAN' will be held alongside the Niigata Disaster Industry Exhibition, featuring over 88 booths, making it the most extensive event of its kind so far. MUJI believes that preparation for unforeseen disasters should be ingrained in daily life, and this event epitomizes that commitment.
Connecting Communities and Enhancing Preparedness
Ryohin Keikaku’s philosophy revolves around establishing a "pleasant life and society," and this initiative mirrors such values. The company engages with local communities to share challenges and ideas while fostering regional revitalization. Moreover, MUJI has instituted eight regional business departments since 2022, including the Shinetsu Division in Niigata, which actively connects local producers and businesses with residents through minimal-market initiatives and events such as the 'Itsumo no Moshimo CARAVAN.'
This year’s event theme is "Fun, Connect, and Prepare for Disasters," marking a collaborative effort to boost community resilience.
What to Expect at the Event
On the event days, participants can expect a variety of activities designed to provide firsthand knowledge and skills essential in times of disaster. For instance, survivors from five disaster-affected areas—Iwate, Fukushima, Niigata, Hiroshima, and Kumamoto—will share their experiences in the “Memory Lounge.” This interactive session allows attendees to gain insights and practical tips on disaster preparedness.
In addition to the lounge, a
