A Seamless Blend of History and Modern Design

Gallery KBNY, a renowned luxury design-build firm based in New York City, has recently completed an impressive renovation of a loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which has garnered attention for its innovative design and respect for the building's history. The project, which has received a feature in Architectural Digest Italia, showcases how historic architecture can be transformed while still preserving its original character.

A Journey Through Time and Space

Located in an early 20th-century building, the loft boasts a generous 1,700 square feet of space. Key features such as soaring 15-foot ceilings, exposed timber beams, and abundant natural light were intentionally preserved to maintain the loft's industrial roots. The renovation is not just about revitalization; it embodies a significant dialogue between the past and the present, demonstrating that modern design can thrive alongside historical elements.

Nicholas Obeid, the interior designer for the project, has harmoniously integrated contemporary architecture with the loft's vintage elements. The collaboration between Obeid and Gallery KBNY's engineering and construction teams has resulted in a carefully curated living environment that fits seamlessly into its urban backdrop.

Artful Interiors

One of the standout features of this remodel is the sculptural kitchen that serves as the central hub of the home. Here, contrasting elements come together—a mix of warm woods, richly-veined natural stone, and elegant brass detailing make the kitchen both functional and visually striking. A bespoke brass-clad range hood serves as an impressive focal point, while tailored cabinetry and thoughtfully integrated finishes elevate the overall aesthetic of this open living space.

Each of the three bathrooms also provides a unique expression of style and form. One guest bathroom, inspired by Milan's Villa Necchi Campiglio, has been transformed with a combination of elegant travertine, layered mirrors, and geometric patterns that blend timeless and contemporary influences beautifully.

Balancing Classic and Contemporary

Throughout the residence, Gallery KBNY has gone to great lengths to preserve the original architectural charm while enhancing the layout for modern living. The thoughtful renovation successfully mirrors the lifestyle of today’s New Yorkers, showcasing spaces that are not only stylish but also adaptable and functional.

Gallery KBNY’s architectural involvement and construction management from the initial design stage to project completion truly underscore the skilled execution seen in this loft. The firm meticulously ensured that each aspect of the renovation paid homage to the property’s industrial past while adapting it for contemporary needs.

Celebrating the Project's Success

Published on October 16, 2026, the Architectural Digest Italia feature delves into the loft’s distinct interiors, highlighting the interplay between its industrial heritage and the contemporary design that breathes new life into the space. This project marks yet another highlight in Gallery KBNY’s portfolio, firmly establishing the firm as a leader in high-end residential renovations in New York City.

Whether it is the sculptural features, the custom furnishings, or the overall tone of the home, this loft renovation is a testament to the beauty of combining historic elements with modern design principles.
