Plenus Enhances Employment System by Extending Retirement Age Policies

In a significant shift towards accommodating the evolving workforce, Plenus Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chuo, Tokyo, led by President Shiro Kaneko, has announced modifications to its employment policies. The company, well-known for its various dining establishments including "Hotto Motto," "Yayoiken," "MK Restaurant," and "KAYAVA," has a robust presence with 3,067 locations across Japan and beyond as of January 2026.

Starting March 1, 2026, Plenus will change the retirement age for its employees from the current threshold of 60 years to 65 years. Additionally, the upper limit for reemployment will also shift from 65 to 70 years. This progressive approach aims to foster an environment where employees can continue to contribute regardless of age, thus broadening their career opportunities.

The revamped employment system is designed to not only support aging employees but also to strengthen the development and skill transfer to younger and mid-level staff. This dual focus aims to help achieve the long-term corporate strategies laid out by Plenus while ensuring a harmonious workplace conducive to growth and collaboration.

Key Changes in the Employment Policy:
1. Revamped Retirement Age: Employees will transition to retirement at the age of 65, effectively altering the traditional retirement timeline.

2. Introduction of New Job Grades for Employees Over 60: A new grading system will be established for those reaching the 60-year mark, mandating a formal retirement from executive roles by the end of February following their 60th birthday. Post-retirement, these employees will be reassigned to missions focusing on mentoring younger staff and solving organizational challenges.

3. Reemployment System Restructuring: The reemployment upper limit will extend to 70 years, with specific conditions applicable for employees over 65 years opting for reemployment.

By nurturing a workplace that champions both experience and young talent, Plenus continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing not just employment, but a pathway to personal growth and fulfillment. The company believes that by fostering a positive environment, they can elevate customer satisfaction and health through their diverse food offerings.

Plenus remains dedicated to delivering joy and inspiration to people through their culinary endeavors. This strategic shift reflects a broader recognition that age should not be a barrier to participation in the workforce, and that skilled individuals, regardless of their age, can bring immense value to the organization.

As the corporate landscape continues to evolve, such measures reflect ongoing changes in societal views regarding age and employment, encouraging a more inclusive approach within the industry. Plenus is setting a standard that not only aligns with current workforce trends but also positions the company as a leader in employee-centric policies.
