AIKO Achieves French VAT Eligibility of 5.5% for Photovoltaic Modules Under PPE2 V2 Standard

AIKO Secures VAT Reduction in France for Photovoltaic Modules

In a significant development for the solar energy market in France, AIKO has announced that its photovoltaic modules now qualify for a reduced Value Added Tax (VAT) of 5.5%. This favorable tax rate applies under the newly implemented PPE2 V2 certification, which aims to encourage the adoption of renewable energy solutions in residential settings.

What Does the VAT Reduction Mean?

In France, residential photovoltaic systems typically face a standard VAT rate of 20%. However, AIKO's modules, which can generate up to 9 kWp, have met the stringent criteria established by the PPE2 V2 standard, allowing for this significant reduction in tax. This change aims to facilitate access for homeowners looking to invest in solar technology while keeping costs down.

The AIKO modules eligible for this reduced rate include the AIKO-A-MCE60Db and AIKO-A-MCE54Db models, which are now officially listed in Certisolis’s registry of products that meet these tax benefits.

Understanding the PPE2 V2 Certification

The PPE2 V2 (Product Environmental Footprint 2, Version 2) certification is a rigorous environmental standard that was introduced in September 2025. For photovoltaic modules to qualify for the reduced VAT rate, they must adhere to several strict requirements, including:
  • - A maximum carbon footprint of 530 kg CO₂ equivalent per kWc based on the PPE2 V2 methodology.
  • - Material limits, including silver content lower than 14 mg/W, lead less than 0.1%, and cadmium less than 0.01%.
  • - Complete traceability, including documented production sites, silicon origins, and manufacturing chains, with a certification valid for 12 months.

Achieving a carbon footprint threshold of 530 kg CO₂eq/kWc presents a monumental challenge for manufacturers, necessitating decarbonization throughout their supply chain, from the polysilicon raw materials to the finished modules. Currently, very few products on the market meet these criteria.

AIKO’s ability to fulfill the PPE2 V2 requirements while maintaining high-efficiency modules with efficiency ratings of 24.4% to 24.5% not only maximizes output in spaces with limited rooftop area, but also enhances the financial return for homeowners. This unique combination translates to shorter payback periods and better investment payoffs for solar energy solutions.

AIKO's Unique Market Position

The introduction of PPE2 V2 places a high bar for photovoltaic manufacturers, yet AIKO's success illustrates its commitment to sustainability and low-carbon manufacturing practices. For the French residential market, this means that premium, high-efficiency solar options are now more accessible at a significantly reduced effective cost, all while ensuring uncompromised performance.

AIKO is recognized as a leader in solar technology, focusing on the research, development, and manufacturing of solar energy generation products. The company’s mission, “Empowering transformation towards a carbon-free era,” continues to drive its pursuit of extreme innovation and cutting-edge technology solutions.
