Okayama University Holds Seminar on Engineering Career Paths



On June 6, 2026, Okayama University, located in Okayama City, hosted a seminar titled "Considering Engineering Career Paths in Okayama 2026," targeting high school students and their parents. This event marked a significant initiative aimed at broadening the horizons of future engineers and was co-hosted by the non-profit organization GSTEM-CPP, which focuses on career pathways for young women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

With the theme "There's More Than One Path for STEM, Explore Your Options!" the seminar attracted 32 high school students eager to learn about the myriad opportunities available at Okayama University, a comprehensive institution.

The event featured engaging lectures from professors in the Faculty of Economics, Agriculture, and Science, alongside inspiring talks from Okayama University alumni who are thriving in prominent local companies. These speakers shared their experiences and insights into crafting fulfilling careers in engineering and related fields.

In addition to academic presentations, the seminar offered hands-on chemical experiments in the engineering department, allowing students to visualize their futures and explore the practical aspects of their studies. Participants engaged in reflective exercises facilitated by GSTEM-CPP aimed at helping them articulate their dreams and career aspirations.

To support parents in their role as guides for their children's educational choices, the program included specific sessions addressing how they can effectively encourage their teenagers' academic journeys. Participants appreciated the valuable discussions and consultations available, fostering a collaborative atmosphere for shared learning.

Yukari Ota, a parent of one of the attendees, expressed her gratitude: "Seeing the flexibility with which graduates build their careers at different life stages was remarkable. It reassured me knowing that children could discover their direction while learning." Similarly, student Eiji Tokakata from Okayama Ichinomiya High School shared, "Through conversations and experiments, I recognized the wonderful relationship between professors and students and was struck by the academic excellence presented. It was a rewarding experience."

This seminar was designed to ignite considerations of career paths among high school students and their guardians, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about the future.
