Gas Liquids Engineering Ltd. (GLE) has reached an important milestone with the completion of its detailed engineering work for TAQA North Ltd.'s new Ferrier Gas Plant, positioned in west-central Alberta. This facility is currently under construction and is designed to enhance natural gas processing capabilities.
The Ferrier Gas Plant is a sophisticated sweet natural gas processing facility that aims to support production from TAQA North's surrounding development areas. The initial construction phase, Phase 1, has a processing capacity set for 105 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). Importantly, the facility's design also includes the potential for future expansion in Phase 2, allowing for scalability to meet increasing demands.
Gas Liquids Engineering's contribution has been significant, encompassing a comprehensive range of engineering disciplines including process, mechanical, piping, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation, and controls. The plant features advanced systems for inlet separation, mechanical refrigeration, and processes like de-ethanization and de-butanization, among others. Additionally, it is integrated with essential utilities such as flare systems, heat media, and instrument air systems.
The facility's primary objective is to efficiently recover hydrocarbon liquids from the inlet gas while producing pipeline-quality sales gas. The refrigeration and fractionation systems are tailored to recover and separate natural gas liquids and condensate, which can then be sold in the marketplace. This operational efficiency is pivotal for both operational success and environmental responsibility.
Ryan Arnold, Vice President of Business Development at Gas Liquids Engineering, remarked, "We are excited to have completed the detailed engineering and IFC scope for TAQA North's Ferrier Gas Plant. Being part of this project during its construction phase is a testament to our expertise in refrigeration, liquids recovery, and natural gas processing. Our long-standing experience allows us to effectively contribute to bringing this state-of-the-art facility into operation."
GLE's extensive scope included crucial activities such as developing the design basis, conducting engineering calculations, specifying equipment, creating drawings, and supporting procurement processes. They also engaged in vendor integration, participated in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, offered regulatory engineering support, and prepared essential construction documentation. Furthermore, they are committed to providing ongoing engineering support throughout the construction phase to ensure the project meets its ambitious timeline and quality standards.
The operational design of the Ferrier Gas Plant emphasizes reliability, performance, and safety, while also ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, which is critical in today’s energy environment. This project exemplifies GLE’s commitment to delivering innovative engineering solutions and servicing the energy sector effectively.
