RYUICHI SAKAMOTO + SHIRO TAKATANI AMBIENT KYOTO – TOKYO
The highly anticipated immersive art installation titled
'RYUICHI SAKAMOTO + SHIRO TAKATANI AMBIENT KYOTO - TOKYO' is set to open on August 28, 2026, at the Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo. This innovative exhibition, organized by the TOW Group under their purpose of creating new experiences for a changing era, marks a significant expansion from the initial Ambient Kyoto exhibition that debuted in 2022.
The main attraction of this exhibit is the collaboration between renowned composer Ryuichi Sakamoto and multimedia artist Shiro Takatani, featuring their installation titled
'async - immersion'. It builds on Sakamoto's 2017 album async, integrating visual art and spatial expressions curated by Takatani into a unique, immersive experience that invites visitors to step inside the art itself.
Spanning approximately 700 square meters, the Azabudai space transforms traditional listening and viewing experiences into an all-encompassing journey through sound, visuals, and environment. Audiences will not only hear music and see visuals; they will engage dynamically with the installation, relishing the physical sensations of sound and space. This convergence of multimedia art blurs the line between observer and participant, creating a profound and one-of-a-kind immersive experience.
