Feed My Starving Children Achieves 5 Billion Meals Shipped
In a significant humanitarian achievement, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) has announced that it has shipped over
5 billion meals to children across
112 countries. This milestone represents a massive collective effort to address global hunger, and with volunteers across the United States working tirelessly, the mission of providing nourishing meals to those in need continues.
As global hunger rises, the work of FMSC becomes increasingly critical. The organization, founded in 1987, operates on the belief that hope begins with food, and their efforts are solely driven by volunteers who pack the MannaPack® meals. These meals, informed by food science, are specifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of children, particularly those facing malnutrition.
CEO
J.J. Slag and VP of International Programs
Junior Obrand emphasized the impact of community involvement during a celebration event marking this milestone. In their remarks, Slag pointed out that each meal represents a moment of hope for a child. "Every meal is packed because someone chose to show up. This milestone belongs to the volunteers, the staff, the donors, and the partners who deliver these meals with care and dignity. Together, we are not simply feeding kids; we are reminding them that they matter and are not forgotten."
The 5 billion meals equate to enough food to sustain nearly
14 million children with a daily meal for an entire year. This accomplishment not only highlights the organization's capacity but also the urgent need to continue this vital work, as many communities still face severe food insecurity.
During the last fiscal year alone, more than
1.2 million volunteers participated in packing, resulting in the assembly of over
382 million meals. With each MannaPack costing just
29 cents, FMSC has proven to be an efficient method for supporters to contribute to the fight against hunger. Impressively, over
99% of packed meals successfully reach their intended destinations. FMSC also boasts an astounding record, having received
20 consecutive 4-star ratings from Charity Navigator, which places it among the top
1% of rated charities in the country.
For many, volunteering is the gateway into the organization, with
74% of supporters finding their connection through packing events. The celebration of 5 billion meals shipped stands as both a testament to the impact achieved and an invitation for further collaboration as hunger persists in many global communities.
"Five billion meals is a milestone, not the finish line. We will keep going as long as children are waiting for food — packing and shipping as many meals as volunteers and donors enable."
FMSC maintains permanent packing locations in
Illinois, Minnesota, Arizona, and
Texas and organizes
MobilePack™ events across the country. The organization encourages participation from individuals of all backgrounds and faiths, emphasizing inclusiveness in their mission.
