gggBooks Exhibition: A Tribute to 140 Issues of Graphic Design

From May 27th to August 28th, 2025, the House of Museums of the World (MMM) in Ginza, Tokyo, will proudly host a special exhibition titled "gggBooks Feature." This display celebrates the 140th issue of the notable graphic design series, providing a unique opportunity to delve into the rich world of graphic design.

The History of gggBooks

The journey of gggBooks began in 1992, with its inaugural edition featuring the works of Polish poster artist Henrik Tomaszewski. Managed by the DNP Cultural Promotion Foundation, the series aims to showcase exemplary works of graphic designers who have exhibited at the Ginza Graphic Gallery (ggg). Over the years, these compilations have become a veritable encyclopedia of graphic design, featuring the innovative works of both celebrated masters and emerging talents from around the globe.

During the 100th edition’s commemorative exhibition in October 2011 at ggg, renowned design critic Hiroshi Kashiwagi praised the series for its comprehensive approach to graphic design, labelling it an encyclopedia of the field. The series now enjoys a reputation for being compact yet rich in content, offering a mini-gallery of brilliant and diverse masterpieces.

In 2011, gggBooks began expanding into digital formats, successfully transitioning to e-books, and with the release of the latest edition in February 2025, the series has reached an impressive total of 140 issues. This continuous effort allows audiences worldwide to easily access the latest trends and inspirations in graphic design from various regions.

What to Expect at the Exhibition

This exhibition at MMM will gather all issues of gggBooks, displaying and selling them to the public. Additionally, visitors will find an array of merchandise related to the graphic designers featured in the series, providing a fantastic opportunity to immerse oneself in the wonders of graphic design.

- Closed on: Sundays and public holidays (the library in the basement is closed on Mondays)
