This ambitious project aims to link various data centers nestled within the burgeoning hyperscale ecosystem that the Susquehanna region has become known for.

In recent months, there has been a notable surge in data center announcements in this area, largely attributable to its advantageous power infrastructure. The construction will be anchored on underground multi-conduit systems that boast an ultra-high fiber capacity, aiming to meet the increasing demands of AI workloads.

The Plan Unveiled


Lightpath has plans for the initial phase of development, which will connect several data center campuses within the region. There are plans to expand the network beyond 400-route miles in subsequent phases to stay ahead of data center growth. This infrastructure will not only enhance connectivity within Pennsylvania; it will bridge crucial connections to prominent locations, including Ashburn, Virginia—the global leader in data center and cloud environments—as well as to New York City and New Jersey, the largest populations centers in the United States.

Scheduled for completion in mid-2026, this network expansion brings significant changes to the connectivity landscape. Lightpath will provide a range of AI-optimized solutions over these new fiber assets. Services will include high-count dark fiber, advanced Ethernet, and high-speed Internet services, capable of wavelengths reaching up to 800 Gbps. Not limited to hyperscale clients, these capabilities will also cater to enterprises, educational institutions, government bodies, and telecommunications providers.
