Children’s Workshop on Environmental Issues and Upcycling
On August 13, 2025, Sony Bank held a workshop titled "Art Workshop Using Dried Flowers: Learning About Waste Issues and Upcycling" as part of its educational program, "CurioStep with Sony." This initiative aims to nurture children's curiosity and individuality, linking them to the skills required to tackle the future. The program focuses on the STEAM fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, utilizing Sony’s technology and creativity to offer diverse workshops and hands-on learning experiences.
During this particular workshop, 18 children participated, exploring critical environmental topics. The event featured guests from the Japan Sustainable Flower Association, who educated attendees about "flower loss" and global warming. Sony Bank also introduced its environmental initiatives, encouraging children to think about what they can do at home to contribute positively to the environment. This segment of the workshop was designed to deepen their understanding of pressing environmental issues.
After the theoretical session, the children engaged in crafting art pieces using dried flowers. Sony Bank aligns itself with the "Rebloom Flower Project" promoted by Sony Music Entertainment, which focuses on collecting and repurposing flowers used for congratulatory bouquets in live events. The dried flowers employed in this workshop were reused from bouquets sent to the "Sony Music × Sony Bank Collaboration Days" music concerts. Additionally, the jars and paper bags used for transporting the crafted pieces were sourced from materials brought in by Sony Bank employees, emphasizing the importance of resourcefulness.
The children experienced the concept of "upcycling," discovering the value in items typically deemed waste. Throughout the workshop, they enjoyed a fulfilling experience that fostered creativity and a better understanding of environmental challenges.
Participants’ Feedback
- - "I was amazed to see that flowers, which would typically have been discarded, became beautiful dried flowers and created a wonderful piece of art when placed in a jar."
- - "From now on, I want to ensure nothing goes to waste, and I’ll cherish every item I use."
- - "It was so much fun decorating with the flowers. I’d love to try this at home."
Before the main event, on July 29, 2025, a similar workshop was conducted specifically for the children of Sony Bank employees to provide them and their families with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of environmental challenges and cultivate a sense of sustainability both within and outside the company.
Looking forward, Sony Bank is committed to supporting initiatives addressing environmental issues, such as flower loss, contributing to a sustainable society. Through its banking services and initiatives aimed at strengthening its value creation foundation, Sony Bank also strives to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
