BLUETTI Enhances Partnership with UN-Habitat to Expand Clean Energy Access in Africa

BLUETTI, a prominent player in the clean energy sector, is taking significant strides to reinforce its partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). This collaboration is aimed at accelerating the access to sustainable clean energy solutions throughout Africa, an initiative that reflects a growing commitment to address energy challenges in the region.

The initiative, 'Lighting An African Family' (LAAF), is currently in its fourth year and has already demonstrated positive impacts, benefiting over 500 families and more than 2,000 residents from underserved urban and peri-urban communities in Kenya, largely focusing on households led by women. With the motto of 'Clean Energy for All', this partnership exemplifies how public-private cooperation can drive meaningful change in energy accessibility.

In August 2025, BLUETTI attended the Devolution Conference 2025, a major policy forum in Kenya, showcasing how clean and affordable energy solutions can bolster housing initiatives, urban resilience, and intelligent urban solutions. During the event, leaders from various sectors highlighted the vital role of clean energy in promoting a sustainable future for all.

The LAAF initiative is currently active in two quickly growing urban areas: Muhoroni, a peri-urban region in Kisumu County, and Mathare, an informal settlement in Nairobi's city center. As part of this project, BLUETTI donated 500 solar-powered lighting and storage kits to residents, a move anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 337.5 tons over five years. The initiative aims not only to lessen environmental impact but also to boost urban resilience and increase environmental awareness among community members.

Oumar Sylla, the Director of UN-Habitat's Regional Office for Africa, emphasized the importance of providing renewable energy to vulnerable families in sub-Saharan Africa, reinforcing how this partnership serves as a robust model for cooperation between the UN and the private sector. 'We proudly deepen our joint effort with UN-Habitat, embracing the mission of promoting the Sustainable Development Goals,' declared James Ray, BLUETTI’s spokesperson.

In the wake of the successful LAAF program in Kenya, BLUETTI and UN-Habitat have ambitious plans to extend similar initiatives to other African countries. This strategic expansion reaffirms their commitment to sustainability and energy equity, ensuring that clean energy becomes an accessible resource for all.

With BLUETTI’s technological expertise in the clean energy realm, the company is dedicated to providing reliable solutions that range from home battery systems to portable power stations used for outdoor activities. With trust from over 3.5 billion users globally, comprising more than 110 countries, BLUETTI continues its mission toward long-term sustainability and responsible innovation.

On the other hand, UN-Habitat champions urban development that promotes social and environmental sustainability, working worldwide with partners to foster inclusive and resilient development while simultaneously addressing inequalities, discrimination, and poverty. This collaboration between BLUETTI and UN-Habitat is not just about providing energy; it’s a holistic approach to enhancing living conditions and community empowerment.
