Teamsters Local 313 Achieves Strong Contract at Olympic Eagle

In a landmark decision, members of Teamsters Local 313 at Olympic Eagle in Puyallup, Washington, have overwhelmingly endorsed a new contract by a remarkable 90 percent. The approval comes after extensive negotiations and signifies a major victory for the union during a period of challenging discussions.

The contract, affecting 135 sales representatives, drivers, warehouse workers, and merchandisers, encompasses comprehensive enhancements in wages and work conditions. Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference, remarked on the unwavering unity among the members throughout the negotiation process. He noted, “Our members at Olympic Eagle were unified from the start. These were tough negotiations, but they were determined to win a contract that reflects their hard work.”

Kris Fish, the Business Agent and Recording Secretary with Local 313, echoed this sentiment, stating, “This was a hard-fought win for all of our members. The bargaining committee never wavered, and with support from the International, we were able to reach a fair deal.” This kind of steadfast dedication underscores the collective strength of the Teamsters, as their commitment to securing fair labor practices stands firm even amidst tough negotiations.

The newly ratified agreement includes a significant wage increase across all classifications, along with a longevity bonus awarded upon ratification. Additionally, there are improvements made to seniority provisions and protections for workers' rights, demonstrating a commitment to both current and future union members. Every detail of the contract exemplifies the tenacity of the Teamsters’ negotiating committee who sought not just a deal, but a meaningful improvement in the lives of union members.

Long-time merchandiser and union steward Bobbie Myers expressed pride in the outcome, saying, “I’m very happy we were able to get a solid deal. We came into these negotiations laser-focused on making major improvements for the merchandisers, and were able to achieve the longevity premiums to recognize their hard work.”

This new contract not only reinforces the balance of power between labor and management but also significantly enhances job security and financial stability for the union's members. The Teamsters' success at Olympic Eagle serves as an inspiring example of what organized labor can achieve when members come together and support one another in pursuit of equitable work standards.
